On Sunday, Atalanta stunned Napoli, who were leading Serie A, with a 3-0 win thanks to two goals from Ademola Lookman. Atalanta shocked Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium by ending the home team's undefeated streak that began on August 18—just as Napoli was expected to build up a considerable advantage at the top. After that, Inter Milan beat Venezia 1-0 to finish the weekend one point behind Napoli.

Lookman, a Nigerian international born in London, had an immediate impact in the 10th minute, capitalizing on a Marten de Roon header to beat Alex Meret, the Napoli goalkeeper, from close range.

His incredible curling shot just after the half-hour mark doubled Atalanta's advantage. Antonio Conte, coach of Napoli, was enraged when his defense allowed Lookman to shoot.

Home team opportunities were scarce. Despite his best efforts, Scott McTominay, a former midfielder for Manchester United, could not beat the post.

Atalanta celebrated as they went up to 22 points, three behind Napoli, thanks to a third goal from Mateo Retegui in injury time. Retegui has scored 11 goals this season.

"We had a great match; bringing three points back from the league leaders is a great source of pride," Lookman told DAZN.

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini added: "When you come to play in Napoli against a team that has had a great start to the season, you know you must have a great match. We are entirely content.

"We are a team that is growing, making progress. We have made eleven changes to the squad compared to the one that played mid-week, but we still need to improve things."

'Don't be ashamed'

"We shouldn't be ashamed of this defeat. They have been playing together for a long time and are better structured than us," remarked the coach.

Lautaro Martinez, captain for Inter, scored the game-winning goal for Inter in the 65th minute from a cross by Federico Dimarco, giving Inter a 1-0 victory against Venezia.

Video assistant referees disallowed Marin Sverko's attempt in stoppage time because the Croatian defender fouled the attacker. Venezia believed they had scored an equalizer in stoppage time.

"We need to be more clinical. We shouldn't find ourselves in such a situation given the number of chances we had," Inter coach Simone Inzaghi stated.

"This will be a very open championship, with several teams who can aim for the title. This kind of victory can make the difference."

Inter Milan and Napoli, two champions, will meet next Sunday in the San Siro.

With a goal by Moise Kean in the 41st minute to win 1-0 over Torino, Fiorentina drew level with Atalanta on 22 points.

Verona defeated Roma 3-2, dropping Roma's record to 3–0 in their last five games.

Coach Ivan Juric, who replaced Daniele De Rossi in September, is under increasing pressure as his team drops to 11th position with 13 points.
