CAF Champions League 2024/2025 Draw

On Monday, title-holders Al Ahly of Egypt and Orlando Pirates of South Africa were assigned to Group C during the CAF Champions League group-stage draw.

The section is concluded by Stade Abidjan of the Ivory Coast and Chabab Belouizdad of Algeria, following the draw at the Confederation of African Football offices in Cairo.

Ahly is the team to defeat in the preeminent African club competition as they strive for a historic third consecutive title, having won the past two championships.

Since an embarrassing 5-2 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa early last year, the Cairo Red Devils, who Swiss Marcel Koller coaches, have not lost in 24 Champions League matches.

In their pursuit of a record-breaking 12th Champions League title, they conceded only one goal in 14 matches.

Despite the extended absence of injured captain and goalkeeper Mohamed el Shenawy, the accomplishment was accomplished with Mostafa Shobeir serving as a substitute in nine matches.

Ahly and Pirates played in the 2013 Champions League final, with the Egyptians emerging victorious with a 2-0 victory in Cairo following a 1-1 draw in Soweto.

Stade Abidjan, the 1966 champions, will return to the competition this season after a 54-year exile, while Belouizdad will make their fifth consecutive group-stage appearance.

Raja Casablanca and FAR Rabat, Moroccan clubs, and Maniema Union from the Democratic Republic of Congo comprise Group B, where Sundowns, semi-finalists in the previous two editions, face off.

Sundowns, who previously defeated Zamalek of Egypt in the 2016 final, have recently strengthened their attack by recruiting South African international Iqraam Rayners. They are currently in pursuit of a second title.

The Young Africans of Tanzania, unfortunate to lose to Sundowns in the quarterfinals last season, are grouped with TP Mazembe of DR Congo, Al Hilal of Sudan, and Mouloudia Alger of Algeria in Group A.

Stephane Aziz Ki, a Burkina Faso international, is an exceptional Dar es Salaam team midfielder, which the Argentine Miguel Gamondi coaches. In qualifiers, Stephane Aziz Ki scored four goals.
