Manchester United Close In on £62.5 Million Matheus Cunha Signing as First Summer Transfer

Wolves have granted Manchester United permission to talk to Brazil striker Matheus Cunha after meeting his £62.5 million release clause.

United had offered to pay the money over five years, but Wolves had already turned down the offer.

United will have to spread out the cost of the 26-year-old's transfer across two years, paying in three equal installments.

They may now finalize an agreement with Cunha and schedule a physical, and the trade should be completed soon.

When will Cunha Join The Red Devils?

Matheus Cunha will sign a contract to join Manchester United at Old Trafford following a successful medical evaluation.

He will sign before departing to join his Brazil teammates for international duty.

United and Wolves have reached an agreement to acquire the Brazil international at £62.5 million.

The Reds have been in a strong position to sign the attacker since the January transfer market closed, despite their poor Premier League season.

The Brazil forward formerly played for Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig. 

Cunha's agents attempted to facilitate a transfer to Arsenal, who needed a striker but were unable to sign their primary targets during that transfer window.

However, only Nottingham Forest showed serious interest, and Cunha instead extended his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers, also known as Molineux.

Cunha scored 33 goals for Wolves in 92 games since joining them on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

He scored 17 goals in 36 appearances (in all competitions) at the just concluded season, which is his most productive season to date.

He has outscored every United player this season ith 15 goals in the Premier League alone

He is a perfect match for United's tactical framework due to his flexibility and skill set. 

The Brazilian can flourish in a 3-4-2-1 configuration, where he can connect midfield to attack and is at home as a second striker or attacking midfielder.

Even though United's postseason schedule is jam-packed, negotiations on Cunha's move are ongoing behind the scenes. 

The team is now on an Asian business trip and will play friendly matches in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
