Real Betis 1-4 Chelsea: Blues crowned Conference League champions

Chelsea won the Conference League, their first major trophy since the Fifa Club World Cup in February 2022.

In Wroclaw, the Blues played Real Betis and won thanks to four goals scored in the second half. The team celebrated the trophy with a party after the 4-1 victory.

Mark Schwarzer, a former Blues custodian, spoke highly of the trophy, saying it brought the team closer together and gave them invaluable experience.

Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player, and Lucy Ward, a fellow commentator, both spoke highly of the trophy, noting that it served as a springboard for the Champions League.

In August, Chelsea's run in the European competition was almost cut short by a Conference League play-off round.

After a 3-0 lead for the Blues in the second leg, Servette scored twice in the second half to pull even and send the match into overtime following a delay.

45 goals - including eight in one game

A 4-0 victory against FC Noah of Armenia in November and a 1-0 victory over Servette in August were among the many triumphs that Chelsea recorded during the season.

This triumph was the most significant for the Conference League so far and the second-largest for Chelsea in their history.

Chelsea started the league season with a 16–0 record, and they ended the season with 26 goals (including qualifiers) in six games. Even though Cole, a former Blue and England midfielder, said Chelsea shouldn't be in the tournament after their victories, they are now heavy favourites to win it. They never trailed in any of their three elimination round victories, defeating Legia Warsaw 4-2, Copenhagen 3-1 on aggregate, and Djurgarden 5-1.

Following a nail-biting final, Chelsea seized control in the second half. Manager Stephen Bradley is confident in Chelsea's chances of winning the league and, by extension, the Champions League after their 5-1 victory against Shamrock Rovers in December.

How Big is this for Chelsea?

After losing to Feyenoord for 14 years, Roma finally won a trophy in 2022. Meanwhile, West Ham finally won one after 43 years, beating Fiorentina in 2023.

By defeating Fiorentina in last year's European club trophy final, Olympiakos made history as the first Greek team to achieve this feat.

Chelsea, the first victors to habitually win a European trophy, did not feel the same in the build-up and did not sell out their 12,500-ticket allotment for the final.

The players, staff, and supporters inside the stadium seemed to relish the victory as much as any other they had experienced, so there were no subdued celebrations at the finish.
