New Update
Basketball USA

While the NBA offseason shifts into full gear, sportsbooks are continuing to fine-tune the men's Olympic basketball odds for the upcoming Summer Games in Paris, France.

After the USA fell flat on its face, failing to medal at last year's FIBA World Cup, there was an immediate swell of support from LeBron James and others, ready to launch a Redeem Team-esque effort.

As such, the Americans sit as the heavy odds-on favorites ahead of the showcase, beginning July 27. Let's break down the Olympic men's basketball odds for Paris 2024.

Olympic men's basketball groups

With four relatively strong countries in Group A, including consensus favourite and clear second-choice Canada, a medal is clearly out of the question.

Nevertheless, the group is solid, with Greece, Spain, and Australia firmly on board. Even if they aren't exactly gold medal contenders, Australia is rife with NBA talent, including Josh Giddey, Patty Mills, Dyson Daniels, Joe Ingles, and many more.

While Spain's national basketball team has yet to be as strong as it once was under Ricky Rubio and the Gasol brothers, it still has a squad full of international experience thanks to players like Santi Aldama and others who have played in the NBA.

You don't need much to make the Greeks an unappealing opponent in this tournament—they're headed by Giannis Antetokounmpo, after all.

Even if the Canadians face their most excellent Olympic opportunity, getting to the medal round will be challenging.

Group A Group B Group C
Australia Brazil Puerto Rico
Canada France Serbia
Greece Germany South Sudan
Spain Japan United States

2024 Olympic men's basketball favorites

USA @ 1.20 On Sky247.ng

When the generational divide in basketball fandom wasn't already expansive enough, the current U.S. men's Olympic squad could be just as good as the original Dream squad. This roster is relatively self-explanatory:

Eleven NBA titles and eight MVP awards are among the accomplishments of this group. It has one of the most devastating scorers in NBA history, Kevin Durant, one of the finest pure shooters of all time, St. Eph Curry, and the best player ever to play the game, LeBron James. Inside, the trio of Bam Adebayo, Joel Embiid, and Anthony Davis should be able to handle the majority of opposition frontcourts (more on that later) while Devin Booker and Tyreke Evans serve as creators.

Following the setback of 2023, the United States should be motivated to use all of its skills to make this tournament its own, a journey that fans will undoubtedly support and follow closely.

Canada @ 12.00 On Sky247.ng

Although the United States has the second-most talented squad regarding raw ability, Canada's basketball program has only just begun to make a real impact; thus far, the nation has nothing to brag about.

Even though the bronze medal overtime victory against the United States at the World Cup (Dillon Brooks Nation, rise!) was perhaps the most monumental event in Canadian national team history, the bar was set even higher for Paris.

Even without Jamal Murray, who isn't attending FIBA, there's much reason to think this team will be better than before. Not to mention the many young players who have grown over the last year; Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, named the Thunder's second-best player in the NBA, is just one of them.

Even though Team Canada's Andrew Wiggins isn't playing, they have more depth than ever before in their roster:

The Canadian national team's future has never been brighter, but they must act today, not tomorrow, to reach their goal.

France @ 15.00 On Sky247.ng

The host country boasts an elite roster that is the envy of many, including NBA players, veterans with international experience, and the most intimidating defensive tandem in Olympic history. Their smooth transitions between games only add to their formidable strength.

French point guards Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama, who placed first and second in last season's NBA Most Valuable Player voting, will make a deadly tandem. It will be much more difficult for opponents to approach these twin towers with the shorter 3-point line and no three-in-the-key penalty. Gobert will likely be glued to the basket, and Wembanyama will cover the space as a free safety net.

The French squad will have an intangible advantage playing in front of their home audience. Thanks to their outstanding tune-up performances, they have surpassed Serbia as the third favourite in the odds,
