Al-Nassr vs. Damac: Saudi Pro League Preview and Predictions

To get back on track, Al-Nassr will face Damac at Al-Awwal Park on Friday in the Saudi Professional League.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

On Monday, Al Nassr continued their impressive AFC Champions League run with a 3-1 thrashing of Qatari side Al Gharafa at Al Bayt Stadium. 

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the second half—one before Angelo scored in the 58th minute—to give the Saudi team the victory, while Seydou Sano got the boot. 

Al-Nassr has won all four Champions League matches since the campaign started on 16 September, when it played a disappointing 1-1 draw against Iranian team Al Shorta. Since then, it has scored eleven goals and allowed three. 

Although Stefano Pioli’s squad is now in third place in the Champions League, their attention is now on the Professional League, where they have lost three of their last four matches and have only managed a single victory. 

This slump has coincided with Ronaldo’s recent problems in the league. The 37-year-old has scored just once in Al-Nassr’s past four Pro League matches after they won their four games before this run. 

With 22 points after 11 league matches, Al Nassr is in third position, tied with Al Shabab and Al Qadsiah for points, and eight points behind Al Ittihad, who have won the league. 

In contrast, Damac defeated Al Kholood 2-1 in their most recent match at the Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium, giving them their first back-to-back wins of the year.

The home team pulled off a spirited win, thanks to goals from Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Farouk Chafai, even though they were down a player for the last 19 minutes of regulation time due to Ramzi Sawlan’s dismissal. 

That came before Damac ended a streak of six consecutive road losses on 9 November at the King Abdul Aziz Stadium with a 2-1 victory against Al Wehda, marking their first away victory of the 2024–25 season. 

Cosmin Contra’s squad has won four out of eleven league games, lost five, and drawn twice for a total of fourteen points; they are now tied for eleventh position with Al Raed for second place in the rankings. 

This weekend, Damac will try to extend its winning streak to three games in a row. However, it will be facing an opponent that has won its previous six matches in a row, dating back to a razor-thin 3-2 defeat in April 2021.

The Portuguese attacker, who has seven goals in the league this season, will aim to continue his impressive form after netting a brace against Al Gharafa, bringing his career goal to 911. 

Former Liverpool striker Sadio Mane, Angelo, Otavio, and Sultan Al Ghanam should all play together up front. In contrast, Nawaf Al-Boushail, Mohammed Al Fatil, Mohamed Simakan, and Sultan Al Ghanam should all play together in defence.

Sawlan, a 26-year-old attacker for Damac, will sit out this weekend due to a suspension he received for his red card against Al Kholood.

In his stead, the 23-year-old Hazzaa Al-Ghamdi, Habib Diallo, and N’Koudou—a Cameroonian international who has scored eight goals in his past eight games—should start up front. 

Due to cruciate ligament and leg injuries, Damac is still missing midfielders Adam Maher (31 years old) and Nicolae Stanciu (not yet back from injury).
