Alianza Lima vs. Sao Paulo: Copa Libertadores Match Predictions
On Tuesday, on the fourth matchday of the Copa Libertadores, São Paulo will travel to Estadio Alejandro Villanueva to face Alianza Lima. A win would see them take a narrow lead at the top of Group D.
Last month, the Peruvians climbed to third place in the group with a dramatic 3-2 home victory over Talleres, leaving them just three points behind Soberano, who defeated Libertad 2-0.
Previous Matches and Head-to-head
Alianza Lima ended a near two-year group stage drought with a win, holding on to a 2-0 halftime lead despite going down to 10 men in stoppage time. They now sit just two points off Libertad in the race for the last-16, with one group game remaining.
Though Alianza have won two of their last three home matches, they fell 1-0 to Cienciano on Friday. The Peruvians haven't reached the Libertadores knockout stage since 2010 and haven't beaten a Brazilian side in the tournament since 1997.
Meanwhile, Sao Paulo remains flawless in this year's group stage, conceding just once in three games. Luis Zubeldia's side is on a 10-match winning streak in all competitions and has scored three first-half goals without reply across their last five Libertadores group games. Tricolour Paulista also remain unbeaten away to Alianza in this competition.
Alianza Lima x Sao Paulo
On matchday three, Alianza Lima was without Jean Pierre Archimbaud (broken bone), Alan Cantero, and Pablo Ceppelini (both muscle strains). Talleres vice-captain Carlos Zambrano will miss the next match after a red card.
Paolo Guerrero scored twice in that game, with captain Hernan Barcos netting a late winner off the bench.
For Sao Paulo, Igor Vinicius (back), Henrique Carmo (ankle), Robert Arboleda (muscle), Jonathan Calleri (ACL), and Luiz Gustavo (lung contusion) were all sidelined. Oscar (hamstring) and Lucas Moura (knee) remain doubtful, while Pablo Maia (ankle ligament) and Young (foot) are out.
Elsewhere, Libertad's Lucas Ferreira opened the scoring just after the half-hour, with Andre Silva adding a second and Rafael securing his second clean sheet of the campaign.
Our predictions
Sao Paulo to win @ 2.28 on Sky247.ng.
Sao Paulo's depth should be the key to their triumph on Tuesday, even if they've had a lot of injuries this season. Fortunately, someone always steps up to the plate for them.
