Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur: Friendlies Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

On Thursday, at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Sports Park, fierce rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will meet in a preseason North London derby—and it's not going to be a friendly.

The Gunners had won three games in a row this summer, beating Newcastle United 3-2. In contrast, Thomas Frank's crop played to a dull tie with Luton Town.

Previous Matches and Head-to-Head

Arsenal defeated Newcastle in a five-goal thriller after acquiring Viktor Gyokeres, who was unveiled to Singaporean fans just before Sunday's match. Newcastle took the lead, but Arsenal took it back when Mikel Merino resurfaced from his previous club and Alex Murphy scored a finish into the top corner of his net. Max Dowman, a 15-year-old, showed tremendous confidence against AC Milan and Newcastle.

Arsenal has won all three of its exhibition matches this summer, including a contest against Watford. They are now gearing up to finish their tour of the Far East, followed by Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao.

In Hong Kong, both Arsenal and Tottenham will aim to maintain their undefeated friendly records. Thomas Frank's Tottenham team recently used deceitful tactics at home, with a 2-0 victory over Reading of League One.

Spurs will face Newcastle in South Korea on August 3, just four days before they face Tottenham in the Telekom Cup, reuniting with Harry Kane and his Bayern Munich team.

They must immediately focus on breaking a three-year losing streak against Arsenal since the 2021-22 Premier League season, as they have lost their previous three meetings with the Gunners.

Arsenal x Tottenham Hotspur Team News

The only thing on Everton fans' minds right now is whether or not Gyokeres will make his debut in the match against Tottenham.  Although Arteta was usually coy when questioned directly last week, the Swede is currently part of the team's training and might make an unofficial debut soon.

Also, with Riccardo Calafiori out for another week, new signing Cristhian Mosquera, who was not considered ready to play against Newcastle but could now have his Arsenal baptism, has a chance to prove himself.

The Italian defender may join injury-prone Gabriel Magalhaes (knock) and Jurrien Timber (ankle) on the sidelines this week; Arteta sees no reason to risk the Italian, whose injury status is uncertain.

Spurs' preseason trip will not include Bryan Gil, Manor Solomon, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin, Destiny Udogie, and new acquisition Kota Takai due to injuries.

Along with long-serving captain Son Heung-min and £55 million man Kudus, young players Mikey Moore, Alfie Devine, and Dane Scarlett have all been left out as they look to quit the club on loan.

Talks to transfer to Major League Soccer involving the South Korean international are reportedly progressing, but the deal is unlikely to be finalised before Tottenham returns to the UK.

Our predictions

Arsenal to win @ 1.56 on Sky247.ng

Our pick is Arsenal to keep their winning streak going against the Europa League winners in the first-ever men's North London rivalry played outside of the UK. The Gunners' deep roster should shine through if both coaches start making changes, even though preseason friendlies are notoriously unpredictable.
