ATP Madrid: Daniil Medvedev Vs Jiri Lehecka Predictions and Betting Tips (02/05/2024)

In the quarterfinals of the Madrid Masters, Daniil Medvedev will face Jiri Lehecka, who eliminated Rafael Nadal in the round of 16.

Daniil Medvedev of Russia is a touch of an unknown quantity on surfaces besides hard courts. The No. 3 seed at the Mutua Madrid Open could succumb in the first round or win an event on "natural" surfaces (clay and grass). As an illustration, following his victory at the Rome Masters the year prior, Medvedev immediately advanced to the Roland Garros, where he was decisively defeated in the first round by Thiago Seyboth Wild.

He has had an inconsistent week in Madrid thus far. Medvedev came perilously close to being eliminated in the third round by Sebastian Korda. Although his victory over Alexander Bublik on Tuesday was straight-sets, there were intermittent instances of choppy play.

Tuesday's elimination of Rafael Nadal by Jiri Lehecka may be Medvedev's most formidable opponent.

Head To Head And Previous Matches

Daniil Medvedev, the third seed, is in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Masters for the first time in his career. Twenty-third-seeded Jiri Lehecka is his opponent, and the victor will advance to the round of 16 to face either number-one seed Jannik Sinner or unseeded Felix Auger-Aliassime.

With an eight-eighth record on clay courts, the Russian has never advanced beyond the round of eight at Roland Garros. His consistent performance on hard courts in 2024 has propelled him to second in the Live ATP Race.

Although he has only won two of his three matches in Madrid, both were decided in the final set. Before Medvedev's comeback, unseeded Matteo Arnaldi and 25th seed Sebastian Korda defeated him in the first set. IHisprogression became more seamless ain round four s he defeated Alexander Bublik, the seventeenth seed, in straight sets.

At Wimbledon last year, Lehecka fell behind Medvedev in their sole meeting, which ended in defeat for Lehecka. Lehecka was defeated in the first two sets and subsequently withdrew. The Czech Republic descended to 26th in the live rankings from 31st in the previous rankings. By defeating Medvedev, he could reach the twenty-second spot. Presently ranked 20th in the Live ATP Race, a qualification for the semi-finals in Madrid would propel him up four positions.

In January, he emerged victorious at a hard-court tournament in Adelaide. Additionally, he advanced to the quarterfinals of two other events, which took place on hard courts. It is his first clay court tournament of the year, and he has never faced a seed other than Medvedev. Two of his victories were over qualifiers Medjedovic and Monteiro, and he then triumphed over Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

Our Predictions

Jiri Lehecka in straight sets

Fans are in for a thrilling encounter as Jiri Lehecka and Daniil Medvedev prepare to face off in the Madrid Open quarterfinals. Both competitors, having progressed to this point, will be anxious to advance and potentially establish their claim to the championship. Although he has not been in the greatest form recently, Medvedev has persevered through his matches in Madrid thus far with extraordinary grit and tenacity.

His consistency from the back of the court, an which he otherwise excels, has been lacking, and his serve has also been subpar.

In contrast, Lehecka has maintained an unbroken form throughout the week and has yet to lose a set. Against the "King of Clay" in the previous round, he displayed an extensive variety of backhand and net strokes while appearing in fine form. Regarding entering the net, Lehecka has demonstrated remarkable proficiency throughout the entire week; it is only conceivable how much more refined it will become over time.

Based on his recent form, the lower-ranked Lehecka enters the match as the minor favorite. He could ensure another victory by replicating his performance against Rafael Nadal.

In contrast, Medvedev must perform admirably from the baseline and on the serve if he wishes to contend with an undefeated Lehecka. He has consistently expressed his displeasure with the red soil on multiple occasions. It is not his closest companion.
