Barcelona vs. Real Betis

After winning the Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona will face Real Betis in Wednesday's Copa del Rey match, hoping to add another trophy to their collection.

In their most recent Copa del Rey match, the Blaugrana eliminated Barbastro to advance to the round of 16, while Betis defeated Huesca, a team from the second division.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Barcelona will be in a festive mood after sweeping Real Madrid twice this season to win the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

In Sunday's final, the Blaugrana strolled to a 5-2 victory against their arch-rivals despite conceding early and playing for almost half an hour with 10 men. In October, they cruised to a 4-0 Clasico triumph.

Before the halftime whistle blew, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Alejandro Balde scored to almost win the trophy, with Lamine Yamal producing a Messi-esque effort to cancel out Kylian Mbappe's goal.

Within three minutes of the restart, Raphinha scored his second and Barcelona's fifth goals. Although Rodrigo scored a goal after Wojciech Szczesny's red card, the Blaugrana finished the game with little drama to win their fifteenth Spanish Super Cup.

The Catalan giants will be playing at home on Wednesday in a cup match against Betis, having won their first title under Hansi Flick. Betis will be a far more formidable opponent than the fourth-tier Barbastro they defeated 4-0.

In December, Barcelona played Betis away in a league game and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. However, they will be confident after winning both of their previous home games by big margins: 4-0 in April 2023 and 5-0 in September of the same year.

The Blaugrana have lost their last three home matches since beating Brest 3-0 in the Champions League at the end of November. They have also struggled in their most recent appearances at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Although Barcelona is a heavy favorite to advance from Wednesday's cup match, Betis will be looking to shock the hosts and maintain their chances of claiming their fourth Copa del Rey.

Earlier this month, Los Verdiblancos advanced to the third round of their current cup campaign with a tight 1-0 victory against second-tier Huesca, thanks to a goal from Isco. They began their adventure with triumphs over Gevora and Sant Andreu.

When Betis played Real Valladolid, a team in danger of relegation, on the road on Saturday, they lost by 1-0.

Manuel Pellegrini's team has only managed one victory in their past eight La Liga matches, losing three and drawing four, all thanks to a goal from Kike Perez in the 58th minute.

This was their third loss in their last four Premier League away games, and they dropped to 10th place after the weekend, five points behind the top six.

With their disappointing league season behind them, Betis will go to Catalonia on Wednesday for their first victory since a 1-0 away win in a La Liga match in December 2021. The visitors, Barcelona, will be the target of Betis's attention.

With a win on Wednesday, Los Verdiblancos will go to the quarterfinals for the first time since their 2021-22 Copa del Rey championship run, when they defeated Valencia in the final on penalties.

Barcelona x Real Betis Team News

Marc-Andre ter Stegen (goalkeeper) and Marc Bernal (midfielder) are still out for Barcelona due to their long-term knee ailments.

After being substituted in the first half of Sunday's Spanish Super Cup final due to a hamstring injury, Inigo Martinez is officially on Barcelona's list of players not participating.

Despite rumors linking him to a possible winter transfer to Juventus, Ronald Araujo will start in center defense in Martinez's stead.

Also, Flick will have to make a goalkeeper change since Inaki Pena is prepared to replace Wojciech Szczesny, who will serve a one-match suspension for his expulsion against Real Madrid.

However, Giovani Lo Celso will not be available for the cup match in midweek due to a muscular injury he sustained in Saturday's loss to Real Valladolid.

William Carvalho has been out for a long time with an injury, while Hector Bellerin and Chimy Avila are also injured right now.

Marc Roca and Pablo Fornals worked out on Monday to demonstrate their fitness and earn a spot on the matchday roster.

After sitting on the bench all weekend, Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque might start Wednesday's matchup against his parent club, the same team he began in December.
