Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. Germany

On Friday, Germany will face Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica, hoping to move closer to the quarterfinals as they sit nicely atop their UEFA Nations League division.

With four points from as many games played thus far in League A Group 3, Julian Nagelsmann's squad sits in third place, while the hosts have yet to win a game this tournament.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

After losing in the quarterfinals of their home European Championships, Germany wasted no time getting revenge in their Nations League opener, a 5-0 thrashing of Hungary that included five different scorers.

Denis Undav and Joshua Kimmich leveled the score after Tijjani Reijnders scored in the second minute, putting Die Mannschaft on track to keep their perfect record in the Netherlands. However, Denzel Dumfries, a raging wing-back for Inter Milan, stole the show and gave Oranje a consolation prize.

Still, Germany is in first position in League A Group 3 because of their better defense. They lead by goal differential, but a second-place finish would still get them into the quarterfinals, which would be in March. The semi-finals and final will be in June.

Germany, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the Euro 2024 tournament, have now won only four of their past thirteen matches played outside of Germany, even though a 2-2 tie with the Netherlands is still a good performance.

No one should be surprised if Nagelsmann's players go two for ten on Friday against Bosnia, considering Die Mannschaft have won only once in nine away Nations League matches, drawing all four of their most recent encounters.

Since the Nations League was established, Bosnia has bounced between League B and League A. They will be locked in another intense struggle with Hungary to escape relegation to the second division if they finish last.

Sergej Barbarez's one-point crop is only ahead of the Hungarians on goal difference despite having scored more goals than the Magyars, meaning that the Dragons' present third-place status would put them in a relegation/promotion playoff safety net.

Their goals came in the first matchday against the Netherlands, although Bosnia lost five in a humiliating 5-2 loss. They then tied for third place in the first round of fixtures with a scoreless draw against Hungary.

Despite appearing in the 2014 World Cup, the Dragons have yet to make a continental championship appearance as an independent country; their current losing streak of seven matches is considerably worse, having lost their past four qualifiers for Euro 2024.

Although they have never beaten Germany as an independent country, the hosts may take solace in a three-game winning streak at home in the Nations League. Their most recent loss was a 3-1 friendly loss in 2010 when Bastian Schweinsteiger scored twice from the penalty spot.

Bosnia-Herzegovina x Germany Team News

Arsenal marksman Kai Havertz is among five players—including Jamal Musiala, a playmaker for Bayern Munich, and two others—who have withdrawn from the Mannschaft team for this month's matches due to a minor knee injury that they have reportedly been treating since the start of the season.

Due to the ineligibility of David Raum, Benjamin Henrichs, and Robin Koch, Robin Gosens, Kevin Schade, and the uncapped combo of Jonathan Burkardt and Jamie Leweling were called up to the national team.

The three goalkeepers for Germany—Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nubel, and Janis Blaswich—have never played a game for Die Mannschaft. Germany also misses Manuel Neuer, who has retired, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has been out with a knee injury for a long time. So, at least one senior debut is in the works for Friday.

There has been only one withdrawal for Bosnia, and that is 26-year-old midfielder Ifet Dakovac. However, Dakovac has yet to earn senior caps, so his absence will not be felt significantly.

The Dragons are still led by the legendary Edin Dzeko, a 38-year-old striker for Fenerbahce who scored nine goals in thirteen games across all competitions in 2024–25.

With former Arsenal player Sead Kolasinac at the head of the defense and Bundesliga striker Ermedin Demirovic playing for Stuttgart up front, Dzeko should be fine finding a scoring partner.

Our Prediction

Germany is to win and under 2.5 goals @ 3.70 on Sky247.ng.

An unmotivated Bosnian team should give Germany little of a fight, even if Germany coach Joachim Nagelsmann is missing several star players owing to injury or international retirement.

The only possible result before following Monday's epic showdown between Germany and the Netherlands is a resounding triumph for Die Mannschaft.
