Arsenal vs Paris Saint Germain

Tuesday night's titanic showdown at the Emirates Stadium pits Arsenal against Paris Saint-Germain, two clubs still vying for that illusive Champions League trophy.

On the first matchday, the Gunners were lucky to draw with Atalanta BC, but their guests were also celebrating after a 1-0 win over Girona, a La Liga surprise.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

David Raya, Arsenal's starting goalkeeper, made a career-and possibly all-time great save as he raced into action to block a close-range header from Ollie Watkins in a match against Aston Villa.

Nevertheless, a few weeks later, in Bergamo, the former Brentford player blew everyone away. He produced a sensational double save, one from Mateo Retegui's penalty and the other from the follow-up, to keep the Europa League winners scoreless. Arsenal, on the other hand, was severely lacking Martin Odegaard, their top creative officer.

Although Arsenal now sits atop the league with 16 points, the early stages of the Champions League rankings hold little significance. However, maintaining a clean sheet against a club that annihilated Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen last season was no easy task.

Raya let two goals in from James Justin of Leicester City last weekend. Still, Arsenal put on another madcap late performance to beat the Foxes 4-2 and draw level on points with Manchester City, who are without Rodri, in the Premier League. The anticipation of another exciting title race is growing by the week.

Arsenal wants to avoid setting an undesirable club record; they have scored 11 goals in their last three games against Leicester, Bolton Wanderers, and Manchester City, and they have yet to lose a competition this season. However, they have never drawn blanks thrice in a row and failed to score in their last two Champions League games.

On matchday one, Arteta's former team, PSG, appeared destined to meet the same fate as their forthcoming hosts. Girona's struggling defense held firm, and PSG, which finished third in La Liga last season, looked helpless against Girona.

But as the clock struck 90, the cross from Nuno Mendes wiggled past Paulo Gazzaniga's body instead of finding the goalkeeper, who had previously played for Tottenham Hotspur. Gazzaniga fell in despair as PSG won the match thanks to his awful mistake.

On Friday night, Luis Enrique's squad relied less on luck, though, as they defeated Rennes 3-1 to extend their winning streak to five games in Ligue 1. Bradley Barcola, who has been sensational this season, scored five goals, including two spectacular ones.

Monaco, the Ligue 1 leaders, has a European grudge to settle at the Emirates after losing to Newcastle United 4-1 last season—their third consecutive Champions League away loss to an English team. Les Parisiens are currently leading Monaco in the goal differential.

In Tuesday's match, Arsenal and PSG will meet again after an eight-year hiatus. The two teams finished level in their 2016–17 group stage encounters, but Arsenal won their first European trophy in 1993–94 when they defeated PSG 2-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-finals.

Arsenal x PSG Team News

On Tuesday, a five-person Arsenal injury list will be complete without Odegaard (ankle), Mikel Merino (shoulder), Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf), Kieran Tierney (hamstring), and Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee). However, there is a slim chance that Merino could return for Arsenal's Premier League match against Southampton this weekend.

Since Arteta is worried about Ben White's health, who has missed the Gunners' past two games with a knee injury, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber, who are both coming off their knocks, will likely not get a break.

Bukayo Saka was robbed of the historic opportunity to set up a goal in every one of his first six Premier League appearances this season as Arsenal's third goal against Leicester was disallowed due to an own goal by Wilfred Ndidi. Nevertheless, no Arsenal player has scored more goals in their first five home Champions League matches than the Englishman, who has contributed to seven goals in those five games at the Emirates.

The French champions are also without several key players due to injury, including Goncalo Ramos (ankle), Lucas Hernandez (knee), Presnel Kimpembe (Achilles), Marco Asensio (muscle), and Desire Doue (ankle), Arteta and Enrique may relate to the injury news.

In addition to Mendes (sickness) and Vitinha (ankle), the Ligue 1 holders have been without goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for a few weeks with a thigh injury. Donnarumma is still unsure about traveling to North London.

Lee Kang-in began up top for PSG against Rennes after Randal Kolo Muani was inefficient against Girona; yet, Kolo Muani posed more of a physical threat to Gabriel Magalhaes and fellow countryman William Saliba.

Our Predictions

Arsenal to win @ 1.75 on Sky247.ng

Although Barcola has done an excellent job filling in for Kylian Mbappe in Ligue 1, the PSG frontline faces new challenges away from home. PSG were highly fortunate to emerge victorious from their match against Girona.

Due to Enrique's continued lack of a reliable number nine option, the English team could be able to limit an injury-plagued PSG squad. It could take only one set piece for the English team to defeat the French champions and advance to the Champions League on their second try.
