Borussia Dortmund vs. Barcelona: UCL Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

Borussia Dortmund will host Barcelona in Tuesday's quarter-final second leg at Signal Iduna Park. The German club is looking to give Barcelona a taste of its remontada medicine to remain alive in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga team was utterly destroyed 4-0 by Hansi Flick's squad in last week's first clash. This secured a spot in the semifinals, where La Blaugrana will face either Bayern Munich or Inter Milan.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Barcelona's front three—Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Lewandowski—have drawn comparisons to the legendary MSN trio. All three scored in the first leg, with Raphinha matching Messi's club record of 19 Champions League goal involvements in a season.

Dortmund, now facing a four-goal deficit, is in near-impossible territory. Only once has a team come back from such a margin—Barcelona's famous 2017 remontada against PSG. Given BVB's inconsistency this season, a repeat seems unlikely.

Despite a 2-2 draw with Bayern over the weekend, Dortmund have just three wins in their last 12 home games and fell 3-2 to Barça earlier in the competition. On the other hand, Barcelona is unbeaten in 2025 across 24 matches and is chasing a quadruple under Flick.

They've won their last eight away games and are undefeated in their past 16 on the road. Having already beaten Dortmund twice and Bayern 4-1 this season, Barcelona looks like the Champions League favourites.

Borussia Dortmund x Barcelona Team News

Pascal Gross returns from suspension and is expected to start in midfield for Dortmund, as he did in Der Klassiker. Coach Kovac has most of his squad available but remains without Marcel Sabitzer and Nico Schlotterbeck, the latter out long-term with a knee injury.

With Niklas Sule also sidelined, Kovac may revert to his usual 4-2-3-1 after recent experiments with a back three—especially as Dortmund needs goals to stay in the tie.

Barcelona, meanwhile, lost Alejandro Balde to a hamstring injury against Leganes and will be without him until the end of the month. With Ter Stegen, Bernal, and Casado all nursing knee issues, Gerard Martin will likely slot into the backline.

Fermin Lopez, who assisted Lewandowski's second goal in the first leg, could again replace Gavi in the No. 10 role, with Dani Olmo unlikely to return from an adductor injury.

Our Predictions

Barcelona to win & Over 3.5 goals @ 3.30 on Sky247.ng

The German powerhouses are in a precarious position and have a lot of work to do in the Bundesliga, but nothing is over until the Champions League is gone. It will be interesting to see how Dortmund approaches Tuesday's match.

Our money is on the runners-up from last year to score again, but thanks to their tremendous offence, Flick's squad could cruise into the semifinals unscathed.
