Brest vs. Paris Saint-Germain: UCL Match Preview, Odds & Prediction

Paris Saint-Germain and Brest, two regulars in France's top division, will meet in a Champions League playoff match at the Stade Francis-Le Ble on Tuesday night.

Both teams finished the league phase with 13 points, but Luis Enrique's PSG advanced to the playoff seedings because of their better goal differential.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

With an ever-expanding domestic trophy case at the Parc des Princes, PSG is still hunting for their first Champions League crown. A lackluster league phase has done nothing to inspire optimism that this may be their year.

The 2024–25 season began with only a single victory for Enrique's squad, which put them in danger of embarrassing early elimination from the tournament. However, the defending Ligue 1 champions finally hit their stride in the final stretch, winning three games in a row.

The capital giants are now attempting to win four consecutive matches in Europe's leading event for the first time in four years. They last accomplished this in February 2021, when PSG defeated Red Bull Salzburg, Manchester City, and Stuttgart in the last three matchdays of the league phase.

The ultimate way to celebrate head coach Enrique's new contract as he leads PSG's unstoppable push towards a fourth straight Ligue 1 championship was Friday evening when they repeated their 4-1 victory against Stuttgart in their last league round matchup at home against Monaco.

As for the positive developments to follow in the next few hours, PSG's thumping of Monaco was their fourth win across all competitions, extending their fantastic undefeated streak to 16 matches. Their lone setback was in a Champions League away encounter against Bayern Munich.

While PSG faltered early in the Champions League, Eric Roy's Brest shocked everyone by winning three of their first four league games and drawing the other against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. They are now serious candidates for a position in the top eight.

Les Pirates were unable to continue their impressive European run in the second part of the first stage due to losses to Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Shakhtar Donetsk; nonetheless, they secured their spot in the playoffs with a loss to PSV Eindhoven on matchday five.

Brest prepared well for Tuesday's historic match. The last time a French team made it to the knockout stages in their first competition season was Nice in the 1956–57 edition, the very first year of the European Cup.

Brest maintained their spot in the top half of the standings with a 2-0 Ligue 1 victory over Nantes on Friday night, thanks to goals from Pierre Lees-Melou and Ludovic Ajorque. Roy had overseen a 2-1 Coupe de France victory away to Troyes on February 4.

Brest last played at home against PSG on February 1, and PSG won 5-2 to extend their undefeated streak over Les Pirates to an incredible 30 games, dating back to January 1985.

Brest x Paris Saint-Germain Team News

The adolescent duo of Warren Zaire-Emery and Ibrahim Mbaye, who PSG revealed were both getting treatment for ankle injuries before the Monaco win, will likely also sit out the match against Brest.

The rest of the French champions' roster is well enough to go to the Stade Francis-Le Ble for the next match. Left-back Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined the club in January, will likely make his UCL debut for his new team.

The Georgian international will support the prolific Ousmane Dembele, who scored a hat trick against Stuttgart and two braces in the hammering of Monaco, bringing his season's total to twenty-one goals (in all competitions).

Bradley Locko (leg) and Karamoko Dembele (muscle) are now out of contention for Brest's roster, and midfielder Jonas Martin is also unlikely to be selected due to a muscular issue.

Despite Roy's lack of new injury worries, PSG's defenders should anticipate relentless pressure from the hosts' towering striker, Ajorque, in the first leg.

This 30-year-old racked up an incredible 447 pressures in the opposing half, second only to Erling Haaland's 295 in the attacking third and the league phase.

Our predictions

PSG to win & Over 2.5 goals @ 1.73 on Sky247.ng

With Dembele now on a scoring spree and PSG's incredible head-to-head record against Brest over the last 40 years, the hosts shouldn't give the French champions much of a challenge.

Les Parisiens may win it all this year. Either way, Enrique's men will cruise past Roy's side with many goals, just as they did two Saturdays ago.
