Real Madrid w x Arsenal w: UCL Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

Arsenal Women will head to Madrid for the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid Femenino at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Tuesday.

The Gunners secured top spot in Group C, earning them home advantage for the return leg, while Real Madrid finished second in Group B behind Chelsea.

Previous Matches and Head to head

Real Madrid Femenino return to the quarter-finals for the first time since the 2021-22 season, having been eliminated in the group stage over the past two campaigns.

Despite suffering two defeats to Chelsea in the group phase, Las Blancas took maximum points from their fixtures against Twente and Celtic, securing second place and a knockout tie with Arsenal.

The Spanish side now aims to reach their first-ever Women's Champions League semi-final. However, their recent form has been inconsistent, with just one win in their last four matches (W1, D2).

Alberto Toril’s team suffered back-to-back defeats to Barcelona in the Copa de la Reina semi-finals, either side of a 4-0 league victory over Sevilla. They were then held to a 2-2 draw at home to Deportivo La Coruña on Saturday, with Carla Camacho and Olga Carmona scoring to help Madrid come from behind twice. That result left them trailing Liga F leaders Barcelona by seven points.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are making their 16th quarter-final appearance in the Women’s Champions League after topping a group featuring Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Valerenga.

The Gunners endured a tough start with a 5-2 loss to Bayern under Jonas Eidevall, but his successor, Renee Slegers, guided the team to five consecutive victories, finishing two points clear at the summit of Group C.

With Arsenal currently eight points behind Women's Super League leaders Chelsea and eliminated from the FA Cup following a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, the Champions League represents their best shot at silverware this season.

They responded to their FA Cup exit with a 3-1 league victory over Everton on Friday, thanks to an Alessia Russo brace and a Maren Mjelde own goal. Now, the 2006-07 European champions will shift their attention to securing a semi-final berth for the eighth time in their history.

Arsenal have been in strong form on the road, winning seven of their last eight away games in all competitions, scoring at least three goals in six of those victories.

Real Madrid x Arsenal Team News

Real Madrid will be without midfielder Teresa Abelleira, who sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury on international duty with Spain last month.

Defender Rocío Gálvez is also unavailable, while Melanie Leupolz and Caroline Weir remain doubts after missing Saturday’s match. If fit, they could return to the lineup alongside Carmona, Maëlle Lakrar, Sandie Toletti, Linda Caicedo, and Alba Redondo.

For Arsenal, Lotte Wubben-Moy is ruled out due to an ongoing injury that has sidelined her for the last four games.

Goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar missed the win over Everton due to concussion, meaning Manu Zinsberger is likely to retain her place.

Emily Fox is expected to be available despite being forced off late in the game against the Toffees, while Beth Mead and Caitlin Foord could be rotated into the starting XI to freshen up the attack.

Our Prediction

Arsenal Women to win @ 2.02 on Sky247.ng

Real Madrid will be eager to gain an advantage ahead of the second leg at the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal’s strong form in the group stage suggests they will edge this contest. The Gunners’ momentum could see them claim a narrow victory in Madrid.
