Argentina, the current world champions and Copa America holders, will want to keep their Group A record spotless when they play Peru on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.

While La Albiceleste has already punched their ticket to the knockout rounds, La Blanquirroja must score as many points as possible to get out of the group round.

Argentina x Peru Team News

Coach Scaloni of Argentina has declared that his starting lineup will alter and that players who did not participate in their first two group games "will play" against Peru.

Legendary attacker Lionel Messi may be rested on Sunday after he strained his right hamstring against Chile.

The Inter Miami player stated that the problem was "nothing serious" but that he "found it difficult to move freely" towards the victory's end, making him doubtful about the match against Peru.

Although none have played a single minute of this summer's competition, Lucas Martinez Quarta, German Pezzella, Exequiel Palacios, Guido Rodriguez, and Alejandro Garnacho are all starting.

For Peru, Anderson Santamaria could be called up to the starting lineup to play in a three-person defense with Carlos Zambrano and Alexander Callens because Miguel Araujo is suspended after receiving a red card against Canada.

Following an Achilles injury sustained in their opening group game, Luis Advincula watched on as an unused substitute; Marcos Lopez may, therefore, continue at left wing-back on Sunday.

Paolo Guerrero, the all-time top scorer for Peru and three-time Copa America Golden Boot winner, needs one more goal to tie the late Teodoro Fernandez for the most scored by a Peruvian in tournament history (15).

Head To Head And Previous Matches

Argentina defeated Chile 1-0 in New Jersey on Wednesday to become the first country to book a place in the Copa America quarterfinals in 2024.

Following his goal as a substitute in La Albiceleste's 2-0 triumph over Canada, Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan made an impact off the bench against Chile, seizing on a loose ball in a packed penalty area to score the game-winning goal in the 88th minute.

With six points out of six already, Lionel Scaloni's team is assured a top-two finish in Group A. They also know that a win on Sunday will solidify their position at the top, leading a Copa America group for the first time since 2016.

First ranked in the world by FIFA, Argentina has only lost two of their last 59 international games since the summer of 2019: a shock 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup and a 2-0 setback to Uruguay in November of last year's 2026 World Cup qualifying.

Argentina has won their last seven games in all competitions by an aggregate score of 15-2 since that loss to Uruguay, and given that they have not lost any of their previous 16 encounters with Peru, they will be confident of victory on Sunday.

With just one point earned from their first two Group A games against Chile and Canada, Peru runs the danger of missing the Copa America group stage for the first time since 1995.

The 2019 runners-up and 2021 semi-finalists La Blanquirroja drew 0-0 with Chile on the first day of play before losing 1-0 to tournament rookies Canada on Wednesday.

The tight game in Kansas was won by a goal from in-demand striker Jonathan David in the 74th minute after Miguel Araujo was sent in the 59th minute for a stud-showing tackle.

Jorge Fossati's team sits at the bottom of Group A, although they are level on points, with Chile in third. To advance to the knockout stages, they must defeat Argentina and hope that Canada and Chile played to a draw.

With eight of their last 12 international games ending in a goalless tie and failing to score in their previous four encounters with Argentina, Peru—ranked 31st in the world by FIFA—has struggled to find goals. Therefore, victory on Sunday could prove difficult.

Our Predictions

Argentina to win  @1.50 on Sky247.ng

Peru has to find their shooting boots on Sunday. If they hope to win the match, they must increase their chances of making the quarterfinals after failing to score in their first two group games.

Though Scaloni will change his starting lineup, La Albiceleste should have enough depth to emerge victorious and take first place in Group A. La Blanquirroja have not defeated Argentina in any competition since winning 2-1 at the 1997 Copa America; thus, it is hard to see Peruvian victory in Florida.
