Venezuela has been one of Copa America's early surprise stories. They play Jamaica at Q2 Stadium in Austin on Sunday to round out Group B.

The Reggae Boyz were formally eliminated from this competition on Wednesday after losing 3-1 to Ecuador, while the Venezuelans advanced to the quarterfinals with a 1-0 victory against Mexico.

Head To Head And Previous Matches

Though they are still chasing that elusive first point, the Jamaicans scored their first goal of the competition on matchday two.

The previous game's three goals against Uruguay matched the most the national team has ever given up in a single Copa America game and matched their most significant loss (3-0 vs Uruguay in 2016).

Jamaica have won three straight matches coming into this competition, but on Sunday, they might lose three straight for the first time since Heimir Hallgrimsson took over in September 2022.

Before the Copa America started, Jamaica had also won five straight games when they were equal or behind at the break, but they have since lost back-to-back games.

They could beat a team from outside the CONCACAF region on Sunday for the first time since 2020 (2-1 victory against Saudi Arabia).

The Reggae Boyz last won a game against a CONMEBOL team in 2016 when they managed to hang on for a 2-1 victory over Chile.

With another strong performance on Wednesday, Venezuela will play in the knockout round for the third time in the last four tournaments.

This squad has not won a shutout in this competition since a 1-0 victory over Uruguay in the 2016 edition held in the United States. They did it against Mexico.

Fernando Batista can finish the Copa America group stage with a perfect record—something no Venezuelan manager has ever accomplished at this competition.

Venezuela would tie the national team record for the fewest goals allowed in the group stage of this competition (one) with the 2016 and 2019 sides if they can keep the Jamaicans off the scoresheet this weekend.

This team once scored in the first half since beating Honduras 1-0 in June 2023, losing that game 2-1 against Italy.

La Vinotinto defeated the Reggae Boyz 1-0 at the Copa America in 2016, and they have never lost to them outside of the Caribbean.

Our Predictions

Venezuela to win  @1.98 on Sky247.ng

Several fresh players should be in the starting 11 this weekend, as both sides have little to play for.

Venezuela looks to have connected with being written off at the beginning of the competition, and we anticipate them maintaining their momentum against a Jamaican team that is irritated by how this tournament has gone for them.
