Uruguay vs Brazil

On Sunday, the quarterfinals of the 2024 Copa America will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and the spotlight will be on a titanic South American duel between Brazil and Uruguay.

In the semi-finals, the winners of this tantalizing match will meet the teams who advanced from the last eight, which was a draw between Colombia and Panama.

Head To Head And Previous Matches

After sweeping Group C with a 9-1 aggregate score, Uruguay has been one of the most impressive teams in the Copa America this summer.

La Celeste got off to a great start in the tournament with a 3-1 win over Panama. On matchday two, they dominated Bolivia 5-0. On Tuesday, they kept their perfect record intact with a 1-0 win against USA, thanks to a goal from Mathias Olivera in the 66th minute.

Although he was unable to see his team beat the host country in the group stage, Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa would have taken many positives away from their performance. Ten of Uruguay's fifteen games under the 68-year-old's leadership since May of last year have resulted in victories.

Holders alone Uruguay, who are aiming to become South American champions for the first time since 2011, are competing against Argentina, who have won 15 Copa America championships. In the previous four Copa America tournaments, La Celeste have made it to the quarterfinals three times, however they have been eliminated each time by Chile (2015), Peru (2019), and Colombia (2021).

With a 2-0 win against Brazil in their most recent competitive encounter in October of last year during 2026 World Cup qualification, Uruguay have shown that they have the qualities to go all the way this year. They may be hopeful about their chances of success on Sunday.

As a result of Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Colombia, who advanced as group winners at Brazil's cost, the Selecao has advanced to the Copa America semifinals for the third year in a row, but they lost the opportunity to claim first place in Group D.

Raphinha scored the first goal of the exciting match in the 12th minute with a fantastic free kick, giving the Selecao a good start. In first-half stoppage time, however, Daniel Munoz leveled the scores, and Colombia held Brazil to only three attempts on goal as Camilo Vargas kept them out.

The referees who chose not to give his team a penalty were "greatly harmed," according to Dorival Junior. Brazil played to a scoreless draw with Costa Rica on the first matchday and then defeated Paraguay 4-1 in their second game of the group round.

Brazil have not lost a single match since Dorival took over as head coach in January, but they have drawn four of their seven international matches. They will be eager to get back on track if they want a shot at making it to the semi-finals of the Copa America for the third year in a row.

Brazil is looking to pick up where they left off in the 2021 Copa America final by winning their 10th South American title. But before they can do that, they have to prove themselves against a Uruguayan team that is riding high on confidence after beating them nine times in their last thirteen meetings overall and scoring twice on eight of those occasions.

Our Predictions

Uruguay to win @2.90 on Sky247.ng

Given that eight of the last ten matches between these two countries have resulted in three goals or more, an exciting back-and-forth matchup might be on the horizon.

Because Vinicius Junior is absent with an injury, and Brazil isn't playing up to par, an upset might be in the cards in Las Vegas if Uruguay keeps up their good form and advances to the semi-finals.
