Brazil vs Colombia ended in a draw as both teams head to the Copa America 2024 quarter-final.
After Raphinha put Brazil ahead with an outstanding free-kick in the 12th minute at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, Colombia pulled even in the second half thanks to an equalizer from Daniel Munoz in first-half stoppage time.
With this triumph, Colombia will attend Saturday's quarterfinal match in Glendale, Arizona, to play the runner-up from Group C, Panama.
However, according to Tuesday's draw, Brazil will meet their bitter rivals Uruguay—who won Group D with an undefeated record—in a monumental match in Las Vegas on Saturday.
According to Brazil goalkeeper Raphinha, the five-time world champions will be undaunted by the possibility of facing Uruguay.
"Our team is evolving with each game and training session, and we think we're on the right track," said Raphinha.
"Unfortunately, it wasn't the result we wanted, and it wasn't the position that we wanted to qualify for in the quarterfinals.
"But whoever wants to be champion shouldn't be worrying about who they play in the next round; we have to be prepared for anyone.
"If we want to win this competition we have to be prepared to play our best."
Vinicius Jr. to miss Uruguay Clash
After Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. received his second yellow card of the tournament for a careless early foul on James Rodriguez on Tuesday, Brazil will be without him as they go into the quarterfinals.
With goalkeeper Alisson beat, Colombian playmaker Rodriguez sent shivers down Brazil supporters' spines with the resulting free-kick, which just missed the target.
Brazil grabbed the lead after 12 minutes thanks to a spectacular free-kick by Raphinha that went into the top corner. This came despite Colombia having the better start.
But Colombia kept up the pressure, and after 16 minutes, Rodriguez sent the ball over the bar with a volley.
Three minutes later, Rodriguez seemed to have set up Colombia's equalizer when he sent a precise cross from a right-wing free-kick for Davinson Sanchez to score.
The goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
Midway through the first half, referee Jesus Valenzuela of Venezuela showed signs of impending anger by issuing three yellow cards to Deiver Machado of Colombia, Jefferson Lerma of Brazil, and Joao Gomes of Brazil in rapid succession.
Colombia was more comfortable in the first half. In the second half's stoppage time, Crystal Palace wing-back Munoz scored the game-winning goal after receiving a magnificent assist from Colombian veteran attacker Jhon Cordoba.
After falling to Argentina in early 2022, Colombia had gone 26 games without losing internationally. They dominated the second half and had a golden opportunity to seal the match in the dying minutes, but substitute Rafael Borre missed the target from eight yards out.
Costa Rica took third place in Group D with a 2-1 win against Paraguay in Tuesday's other match in Austin.
