Euro 2024: Hungary x Switzerland, Match Preview, Team News, Odds and Predictions(15/06/2024)

The focus of attention will be RheinEnergieStadion when Switzerland and Hungary square off in Group A. Hungary defeated Israel 3-0 in their most recent warm-up match. Still, they will face a much more formidable opponent, a highly seasoned team in Switzerland. Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool is one player to watch in the home team, while Callum Styles of Barnsley, who was injured against Israel, should be able to play on Saturday.

Conversely, the Rossocrociati come into the opening having drawn 1-1 with Austria. With Switzerland looking smart in front of goal in a 4-0 thrashing of Estonia, we think that bettors everywhere might find value in backing both sides to score. Remember that their past three competitive encounters saw both teams score a goal. Although Steven Zuber is a severe concern after hobbling off against Austria, fit-again Monaco attacker Breel Embolo is unlikely to be risked against Hungary.

Hungary x Switzerland Team News

Unquestionably, Hungary will rely on the quality of their midfield at Euro 2024, and Szoboszlai of Liverpool is the key player. But don't undervalue the supporting cast—Barnabas Varga scored four goals in qualifying, and M.L.S. players Daniel Salloi (Sporting KC) and Daniel Gazdag (Philadelphia Union) may be formidable offensive threats.

With players like Peter Gulacsi and Willi Orban of RB Leipzig, the Hungarians also have a solid defensive foundation. That explains why they have preserved a clean sheet in their previous two games and only let up seven goals in eight qualifying games.

With players like Shaqiri, Zhaka, Schar and Manuel Akanji in their ranks, Switzerland seems even more formidable on paper. The "darkhorse" label would seem to fit with such names. Gregor Kobel of Dortmund is still backing up Inter's Yann Sommer. Thus, their goalkeeping corps is also rather good.

But goals have been a problem for the Swiss; in just one of their last seven games, they have scored more than one goal; the only players in their squad to have scored double-figure senior international goals are Xhaka (14), Breel Embolo (13), Steven Zuber (11) and Shaqiri (31).

Switzerland began qualifying by winning 8-0 combined over Belarus and Israel, their only other victory in the subsequent eight games came against Andorra. The quality is there to correct the few issues that head coach Murat Yakin has to address.

Head To Head And Previous Matches

This has been a well-watched international fixture, with 46 prior meetings between the two countries. With five draws shared, Hungary leads head-to-head 30-11. However, just one of those wins occurred in their past nine encounters, which began in May 1994. Switzerland won the last three encounters; two during the 2018 World Cup qualification round.

Our Predictions

Hungary to win @3.40 on Sky247.ng

Though Hungary has defeated more well-known teams than Switzerland recently, winning the competition would be a momentous achievement for this squad. Marco Rossi keeps reaching new heights with a team that has maybe had their most robust generation since the 1950s, with young players joining Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai.

Among them is Barnabas Varga, who made his international debut at 29 years old in the previous year. He scored twice as Hungary defeated Israel 3-0 in their farewell game. He scored in his last four games in qualifying, making him a terrific anytime scorer.

The Swiss are considered the favourites for this match; however, Hungary boasts a robust team, superior form, and a distinct identity. Please take advantage of their outstanding value debut, as they are poised for a breakthrough campaign.
