After helping Spain win their fourth consecutive Euro in a 2-1 victory over England in Berlin on Sunday, midfielder Rodri was named the tournament's best Player.
Spain advanced to the final thanks in large part to Rodri, who was substituted at halftime due to a knee injury. However, his outstanding play helped the team overcome host Germany and France.
The Manchester City player scored his lone competition goal in a 4-1 knockout round victory over Georgia.
Nevertheless, coach Luis de la Fuente praised him as a "perfect computer" for his rhythmic passing and game reading, which were crucial in leading a youthful team to victory in a tricky tie.
"My God, what a day, this is surely the best day of my career," Rodri said after he was presented with the Player of the Tournament award.
"You only have to see the family we have built ... Now we are the national team that has won the most European Championships," said Rodri, who paid tribute to Spain's young players in particular —Nico Williams is just 22 and Lamine Yamal turned 17 on Saturday. They won the Player of the Match and Young Player of the Tournament awards, respectively.
"Many of us here won Under-19 and Under-21 European Championships, and this is cultivated and nurtured and you work hard for," Rodri said. "Today we are champions of Europe and we’re not going to stop here."
Rodri can add the European Championship to his impressive trophy case; he has lost just once in his past 80 games across all competitions for club and nation.
This 28-year-old boasts an impressive trophy case: four Premier Leagues, one Champions League, one FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and Nations League with City and Spain, respectively.
