Euro 2024: Switzerland x Germany, Match Preview, Team News, Odds and Predictions(23/06/2024)

When Germany plays Switzerland in their last Group A match, they will try to maintain their perfect record. The hosts of EURO 2024 showed their quality with consecutive victories over Hungary (2-0) and Scotland (5-1), but remember that Julian Nagelsmann will probably change up the team against the Rossocrociati. While seasoned midfielder Toni Kroos should rest, Emre Can, Leroy Sane and Niclas Fullkrug are all fighting for a start.

Switzerland, however, has a higher goal difference than third-place Scotland and is already in the knockout rounds; they would surely be content with one point from Sunday's match. With a draw, Germany will also secure the top spot in Group A. Thus, the sharing of the spoils comes next. Regarding the nominal hosts, Denis Zakaria and Steven Zuber are injured.

Switzerland x Germany Team News

Former Liverpool player Xherdan Shaqiri should start and claim his 135th international cap here after scoring a thrilling equalizer against Scotland on Wednesday night in his first appearance at this summer's European Championships. Even though he had many injury problems the previous season, offensive talisman Breel Embolo may start in Group A on Sunday night.

Daniel Akanji, who was instrumental in Manchester City winning their fourth straight Premier League championship the previous season, will again team up at the back with Newcastle's Fabian Schar. Yakin will captain Bayer Leverkusen and was an Arsenal player, Granit Xhaka.

Already on track for a knockout stage ticket, Nagelsmann could be persuaded to make a few adjustments on Sunday night. Former Real Madrid player Toni Kroos has already said that the European Championships will be his last competition this summer before formally hanging up his boots. Emre Can might take his place.

Likewise, Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane may be given an early opportunity even if he had a little injury before EURO 24 began. Former England U21 international Jamal Musiala, who scored in each of Germany's first two Group A games this summer, will again be a key player in Frankfurt.

Head To Head And Previous Matches

First up, Switzerland is in the lead to follow Sunday's opponents out of Group A, despite their disappointment earlier in the week when they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Scotland.

The Rossocrociati should have a great atmosphere in their camp after winning 3-1 over Hungary to kick off their European Championship journey on June 15.

The Swiss had only lost one of their previous 16 games in all competitions despite finding little dynamism throughout their EURO 24 qualification campaign last year.

With that streak dating back to their World Cup loss in the Middle East eighteen months ago, Yakin's team should be looking forward to what promises to be a fierce match in Frankfurt this weekend.

As for Germany, they may have had a public World Cup nightmare in Qatar 18 months ago when they could not advance beyond the group round, but they have been outstanding since 2024.

Julian Nagelsmann's team have won several accolades from all around the continent since they started their European journey with a crushing 5-1 win against Scotland.

Germany, last seen earlier this week turning in another routine effort when they defeated Hungary 2-0, quickly advanced to the knockout round without shifting into third gear.

The former RB Leipzig manager has his team pencilled in as a serious championship contender this summer after making two statements during the March international break as they achieved triumphs over Holland and former world champions France.

Our Predictions

Both teams to score @1.70 on Sky247.ng

Neutrals will be hoping for a fireworks-filled match on Sunday night since this one always produces many of them. We might be in for a true thriller from Frankfurt, as Switzerland and Germany drew a stunning 3-3 draw in their last meeting in October 2022.

Since the Nationalelf is already well on its way to a knockout stage ticket, Nagelsmann could be tempted to make a few adjustments this weekend. We anticipate a similar result again since four of the last five meetings between Sunday's Group A opponents ended with both sides scoring.
