Flamengo vs Bayern Munich: Club World Cup Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

With a coveted Club World Cup quarter-final ticket on the line, Sunday night's matchup between Flamengo and Bayern Munich at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida is set to be a thrilling encounter. Both teams are determined to secure their place in the next stage of the prestigious competition.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Flamengo, managed by Filipe Luis, is currently experiencing an extraordinary purple streak and will enter Brazil's summer break, dominating the race for first place in the Serie A rankings.  After a dominant performance that earned them a spot in the next round of the Club World Cup earlier this week, the team from Rio de Janeiro has justifiably garnered praise from all corners of the globe.  In addition to claiming a renowned European scalp on June 20, the Mengao managed to notch seven points from their three Group D outings this summer.

The atmosphere in Flamengo's camp is scorching hot as they laid down a massive statement of intent with a stunning 3-1 win over Premier League heavyweights Chelsea.  In Florida, Luis's squad may pose major issues thanks to their potent offense and a perfect record in their last eleven matches across all competitions.

Even though Vincent Kompany's drastically changed Bayern Munich team lost 1-0 to Benfica on Tuesday, the German giants will be sure to pick themselves up right away.  With a record-breaking 10-0 thrashing of Group C whipping boys Auckland City to kick off their Club World Cup journey, the former Burnley manager is hoping for the opportunity to launch a serious championship challenge this summer.

Bayern will know how important it is to avoid a banana peel this weekend, having reclaimed the domestic championship last season and remained undefeated in the Bundesliga since returning from the international break in March.  Still, Kompany's squad has become famous for its pinpoint finishing, even if they went scoreless on Tuesday night.  The Bavarians will be under a lot of pressure coming into this match after failing to score on only one occasion since mid-February.

Flamengo x Bayern Munich Team News

Nicolas de la Cruz, a former River Plate midfielder, will not be joining Luis' traveling group here due to his knee injury, which will cause him to miss the whole summer tournament.  Except for the Uruguayan international, however, Flamengo has said that everyone on the team is healthy.

This month, summer signing Jorginho completed a free move from Arsenal. He should be given full playing time in the center of the field.  On Sunday night, Danilo, a former Juventus star, will start in central defense for Luis, with Leo Pereira likely to start as well.

Bayern will play without South Korean international Min-Jae Kim on Sunday night due to his Achilles tendon injury and speculation over his future with the club.  Full recalls should be granted to summer signings Jonathan Tah, Michael Olise, Joshua Kimmich, and anyone else given a week-long respite to play against Benfica.

After scoring a triple trick in the first game against Auckland City on June 15, German superstar Jamal Musiala should get more playing time.  With 26 goals in the Premier League, England captain Harry Kane stormed to the Golden Boot in the Bundesliga last month and will spearhead the attack tonight.

Our Predictions

Both teams to score @ 1.73 on Sky247.ng.

On Sunday night, Bayern Munich may be considered a heavy favorite to advance to the next round of the Club World Cup in Florida. Still, Kompany's team may face serious challenges in this encounter.  The Brazilian leaders shouldn't be disregarded under any circumstances following Flamengo's impressive 3-1 triumph over Chelsea on June 20th

With a perfect record of eleven games in a row across all competitions, the Mengao should be well-prepared to put Bayern's defense, which has been woefully unstable since Kompany's summer arrival, to the test.
