Now, let's turn our attention to Fluminense. Renato Gaucho's squad has made an incredible comeback after last season's disappointing mid-table finish in Brazil's top division.  

The former manager of Gremio is finding the spirit in his camp on fire after last week's impressive 2-0 away win against Internacional.  

Fluminense is now riding high after coasting to a spot in the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana last month with little effort.  Not only have Gaucho's men won all four of their prior matches by a combined score of 102–0, but they have also been quite clinical in front of goal.

Even though the German giants were in the middle of a public shambles just before the New Year began, Niko Kovac's Borussia Dortmund team ended the 2024–25 season on a high note, having gone on an incredible run.  Last seen on May 17, cruising to a 3-0 home victory over Kiel, the former Monaco manager oversaw a 20-7 aggregate win in his team's last six matches across all competitions.

 With a magnificent 3-1 victory against Barcelona, BVB ended their Champions League trip and have now gone without a loss since the international break in March.

 Dortmund, after slogging their way to a top-four position in the Bundesliga, will be fantasizing about the opportunity to make a serious run at the Club World Cup in America this summer.

Fluminense x Borussia Dortmund Team News

On Tuesday night, Fluminense will be without Facundo Bernal, German Cano, and former Bordeaux player Otavio, all of whom are currently battling with physical difficulties.  Paulo Baya, a 25-year-old who scored his first goal of the season in Serie A's match against Internacional, could get more action.

Kevin Serna, a Colombian international, will join Everaldo, a former Bahia marksman, in the final third. Serna scored in back-to-back matches before the start of June.  Thiago Silva, a hero for Chelsea and PSG until turning 40 last year, will start at center-back for Fluminense.

Jobe Bellingham, who joined Borussia Dortmund in a sensational transfer from Sunderland earlier this month, is expected to make his debut that same Tuesday night.  The England U21 international Jamie Gittens, a teenager from Manchester City, has been included in Kovac's squad despite rumors that he might leave the Premier League this summer.

Midweek, Germany's offensive star Serhou Guirassy will spearhead the assault after scoring 21 goals in the Bundesliga last season and placing second in the Golden Boot competition, behind only Harry Kane.  Nico Schlotterbeck, a German defender who hasn't played since March, will sit out the match in the US.
