Paris Saint-Germain vs. Monaco: Ligue 1 Match Preview, Odds & Prediction

On Friday night, in Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco will meet at the Parc des Princes for their third meeting in six weeks.

The postponement of this game is to give both teams as much time as possible to prepare for their respective Champions League knockout matches since Monaco will join PSG in the playoffs that begin next week after their loss on matchday eight.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

With last weekend's 5-2 away victory against Brest, PSG extended their lead atop Ligue 1 to 50 points, tied for sixth-most by a club in the league after 20 games. Brest will be a potential opponent in the Champions League.

On each of the five prior times, PSG teams—along with Lyon in 2006–07—were the recipients of the trophy, and each time, those teams went on to win the championship.

With the victory against Brest, they have gone undefeated at home this season and maintain a 10-point lead above Marseille.

They have reclaimed first place thanks to their play in the final third, and they will be looking to keep up their scoring streak—38 goals in 40 home games under Luis Enrique's leadership—in this match.

With a 2-0 victory against Le Mans in Tuesday night's Coupe de France last 16 match, PSG have been unbeatable over the previous 13 games, winning 12 and scoring 36 goals.

Our next opponents, Monaco, have become old foes of Paris Saint-Germain's. The two teams met in the league just before Christmas and in the first Trophee des Champions, with Paris coming out on top both times.

Monaco is the team PSG have met the most times (113 times), and they have taken control of this matchup, scoring 27 goals in their past nine home matches and losing just twice since the Qatari takeover.

When it came to the competition for the Champions League spots, Monaco's record versus the other top-five clubs this season was the deciding factor.

Despite having a lead in their previous three matches this season—against Nice, Marseille, and their next opponent, PSG—Adi Hutter's squad has managed only one point from those four encounters, a draw against Lille.

Monaco's awa is also worrisome, as they are now experiencing their worst road run in almost five years, with zero wins in their previous four games away from the Stade Louis II.

Not only did they lose 3-0 to Inter Milan last week due to an early red card, but they also failed to finish in the top eight of the Champions League. This month, they have two extra games against Benfica, but aside from that loss at San Siro, they have won all four of their previous games.

Last weekend, they bounced back from that crushing loss in Italy with a 4-2 victory against Auxerre, largely thanks to a hat trick from new acquisition Mika Biereth, who helped them maintain their position in the top three.

However, clubs are still vying for spots in the Champions League. As we go into the weekend, Monaco is in third place, three points behind Marseille, one point ahead of Lille, and three ahead of Nice.

Paris Saint-Germain x Monaco Team News

Here, Monaco's defense—especially their fullbacks—will need to be on point to thwart Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola, who have recently been sensational.

Dembele has scored hat tricks in consecutive games, bringing his total for the season to fourteen. At the same time, Barcola has contributed to ten goals in his previous seven games, including the game-winning goal against Le Mans last week.

Concerns over injuries have arisen for PSG with the loan departures of Marco Asensio, Milan Skriniar, and Randal Kolo Muani at the close of the transfer window. Two midfielders, Joao Neves and Warren Zaire-Emery, are questionable.

After scoring a hat trick last weekend, Biereth will start in place of Breel Embolo as Monaco's starting striker. George Ilenikhena and Folarin Balogun are both injured.

The defense combination of Jordan Teze and Wilfried Singo is out with hamstring problems. At the same time, Aleksandr Golovin was substituted at halftime in that victory against Auxerre and is said to be nursing a little injury.

In the rematch, Singo unintentionally scraped his studs over the face of the PSG goalkeeper, leaving the Italian with several stitches; hence, Gianluigi Donnarumma will not be facing off against Singo again.

Our Predictions

PSG to win & GG @ 2.29 oN Sky247.ng

With two victories against Monaco in the last six weeks, PSG will be looking to continue their undefeated run in the league this season. This PSG team is almost unrecognizable from the one having trouble stringing two wins together earlier in the campaign.

Even if they lose, Monaco will give PSG a challenging game since they are the only team in the match to win more than 40 games against them (48). Monaco has also scored in 12 of their 13 visits to the Parc des Princes, so they should be a formidable opponent.
