Los Angeles FC vs Flamengo: Club World Cup Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

Flamengo will fly to California to face Los Angeles in the early hours of Wednesday, hoping to secure their spot in the knockout round of the Club World Cup.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Los Angeles may have snatched a late spot in the Club World Cup on June 1 by edging out Mexican team Club America. Still, Steve Cherundolo's squad has had a tough time in Group D. The California club got things rolling with a 2-0 defeat to English powerhouse Chelsea over the weekend, putting on yet another lifeless display.

After losing 1-0 at home to Esperance Tunis, LAFC's hopes of advancing to the knockout round were shattered. It was an excellent chance to fail.

With a spot at the bottom of Group D, Los Angeles will face another tough test first thing Wednesday morning.  I should mention that in their previous six matches in all competitions, Cherundolo's squad has managed only one victory in the first half of the game.

Flamengo, on the other hand, is riding high on what has turned into an incredible run of form, and the atmosphere in their camp is electric.

The camp of Filipe Luis has been receiving a deluge of praise from all corners of the world since their last appearance, in which they famously defeated Chelsea 3-1.  After kicking off their Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory against Esperance Tunis on June 17, the South American powerhouses will aim to make a bold statement by formally securing their spot in the knockout round.

Indeed, Flamengo began June with a 5-0 drubbing of Fortaleza, continuing a winning streak that spans six games in a row across all competitions (17-3 overall).  Midweek, Luis's team will be sniffing blood, having found a significant clinical advantage in the last third.

Los Angeles FC x Flamengo Team News

Former Leicester loanee Cengiz Under will not be available for Los Angeles' match against Esperance Tunis on Sunday due to a lingering muscular injury.  On the other hand, Marlon, a former Barcelona youth product, may be recalled to the starting lineup.

Ex-Chelsea marksman and French record-breaker Olivier Giroud will front Wednesday's lineup, even though he hasn't precisely been fluid since moving to California last summer.  Hugo Lloris, a former Tottenham goalkeeper, will also get the nod in midweek.

Nicolas de la Cruz will miss Flamengo's match on Wednesday for the second consecutive week due to a knee injury and his limited playing time throughout that period.  Except for the former River Plate midfielder, however, Luis's camp has stated that their player is fully healthy and that there are no new injury concerns.

Bruno Henrique, a seasoned marksman, might be called up for whole duty after scoring against Chelsea last week and making his Club World Cup debut.  Jorginho, an Italian international who signed a permanent deal with the club this summer from Arsenal, will start in the center of the field.

Our Predictions

Flamengo win @ 1.80 on Sky247.ng

Flamengo will be looking to build on last week's 3-1 triumph against Premier League powerhouse Chelsea, pulling off a major shock in the process.

With a commanding lead in Group D, Wednesday's visitors will be feeling confident as they make another declaration of purpose to secure a spot in the knockout round.

Midweek travel to California should delight Flamengo, who have won all six of their previous outings across all competitions by an aggregate score of 17-3.
