Manchester United vs Bodo/Glimt: Europa Leage Preview and Predictions

United will host Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford on Thursday night as they return to Europa League play. Scroll down to see our match details and predictions,

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

First, the hosts, Manchester United, failed to take advantage of an early opportunity to establish a marker as Ruben Amorim's stint began over the weekend. After a disappointing 1-1 draw away at relegation-threatened Ipswich at Portman Road, the former Sporting Lisbon manager should be looking forward to Thursday night’s first encounter at Old Trafford.

There will be a lot of pressure on Manchester United, who won their first Europa League match at the fourth try on November 7th, 2-0, against PAOK of Greece. Regardless of their long streaks of inconsistency, Manchester United have gone a perfect 10-game streak in all competitions (beginning on 29 September) without losing a single match.

In contrast, Bodo/Glimt will be looking to build on last weekend’s 2-0 away success at Odd, a welcome return to winning ways for the visitors. But Kjetil Knutsen’s squad has shown its long inconsistencies this season, culminating in an exciting 2-2 draw with Fredrikstad before the international break in November.

The visitors on Thursday have not won consecutive games in the previous two months and have managed just one victory in their last five outings across all competitions. Bodo/Glimt will be well aware that they are up against a heavyweight task tonight despite beginning their Europa League experience with a dramatic 3-2 success over Portuguese giants Porto on 25 September.

Manchester United vs Bodo/Glimt Team News

United will not start Leny Yoro, a defender who joined from Lille this summer, at Old Trafford despite his nearing debut for the club. Victor Lindelof is also questionable for Thursday’s game since he hurt a muscle playing for Sweden during the international break.

England international Luke Shaw, who made a substitute appearance against Ipswich last weekend, should earn more playing time. Ex-Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee will be looking for an opportunity here after coming to Old Trafford during the summer and failing to establish fluency.

Going into their match at Old Trafford, Bodo/Glimt will be without three key players: Gaute Vetti, Daniel Bassi, and Norwegian teenager Syver Skeide. All three are currently struggling with long-term medical difficulties. Veteran defender Brede Moe, who made a quick cameo appearance against Odd over the weekend, will again be selected in Knutsen’s squad.

Starting in the centre of the field, former Lens star Patrick Berg has scored in all three games since the November international break. Midway through the international break, Jens Hauge, on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, will start for Norway.

Our Predictions

Manchester United to score in both halves @ 1.95 on Sky247.ng

Manchester United will aim for their first win under Amorim after last weekend’s 1-1 draw away to Ipswich. The Red Devils have been inconsistent for a long time, but they have only lost once in their last 10 matches in all competitions. We are supporting the Premier League heavyweights’ home win here, even if Bodo/Glimt may be looking forward to their historic trip to Old Trafford on Thursday night.
