Norway W vs Iceland W: UEFA Women Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

Taking on Iceland Women in Thursday's match at Arena Thun, Norway Women will want to keep their spotless record at Women's Euro 2025 intact.

The two-time European champions have already secured first place in Group A, while Iceland has been eliminated after suffering consecutive losses.

Norway is eager to participate in the Women's Euros knockout stages for the first time since 2013, after suffering straight group stage exits.

After a pair of 2-1 wins, the Norwegians advanced to the quarterfinals, with their first win coming against tournament hosts Switzerland.

Caroline Graham Hansen scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute after her team had come back from behind to defeat Switzerland. Earlier in the match, they were destined to play to a 1-1 draw with Finland. 

With this win and Switzerland's triumph over Iceland, Norway clinched first place with one game remaining, advancing them to next Wednesday's first quarterfinal against the Group B runner-up. 

Although Portugal and Spain still have a chance to finish second in Group B, they are now favored to meet Italy in Geneva for a spot in the semifinals.

Norway still has work to do in their penultimate group game against the Netherlands, as they aim to win three in a row at the European Championships for the first time since 2013, even if they have their sights set on the last eight.

While their opponents have had a successful group stage, Iceland has had a less-than-stellar experience, currently sitting in last place in Group A with one game remaining.

Iceland's 10-man squad lost both their initial match against Finland (1-0) and their match against Switzerland (2-0) on Sunday. 

It seemed like a tie was in the cards until Geraldine Reuteler scored in the 76th minute, but Alayah Pilgrim scored in the last seconds to send Iceland packing from the European Championships for the third year in a row.

Being one of three teams in the 2025 tournament without a goal will be especially disheartening for Iceland, but at least they have the dignity to contend for in their last group encounter. 

Also competing this year is the national women's soccer team, which hasn't tasted success at the European Championships since a 2013 triumph against the Netherlands by a score of 1-0.

Two times during their current Nations League campaign, Thorsteinn Halldorsson's squad faced Norway; the first home match ended in a scoreless draw, while the second away match ended in a 1-1 tie.

Now that Norway has won first place in Group A, head coach Gemma Grainger may feel pressured to make changes.

In the last group match, Maren Mjelde, Lisa Naalsund, Signa Gaupset, and Celine Bizet are all candidates to start.

If Ada Hegerberg is rested before the quarterfinals, Manchester United striker Elisabeth Terland might have the opportunity to start the competition.

After serving a one-match punishment for her red card on matchday one, Hildur Antonsdottir may be eligible to start for Iceland in their next match.

When Gudny Arnadottir is substituted for the 2-0 loss to Switzerland, Saedis Heidarsdottir will take Gudny's place.

Iceland is still without a goal in this tournament, although Hlin Eiriksdottir, a forward for Leicester City, might start up front with Sandra Jessen and Sveindis Jonsdottir.
