Palmeiras vs Chelsea: Club World Cup Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

At 03:00 WAT on July 5, Palmeiras will face Chelsea FC in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.

Our football statistics indicate that the quarterfinals of the 2025 Club World Cup will pit Palmeiras against Chelsea, setting the scene for a spectacular repeat of the 2021 Intercontinental Cup final.  Both clubs advanced to the round of 16 after thrilling extra-time victories—Chelsea thrashing Benfica 4-1 and Palmeiras eking out a 1-0 win over Botafogo.  A brief overview is presented here.

Previous Matches and Head-to-Head

After a 4-1 victory against Benfica in the round of 16, Chelsea advanced to the semifinals.  Before their 3-1 loss to Flamengo in the group stage, the Blues had beaten Esperance Tunis and Los Angeles FC. Flamengo was another Brazilian team that the Blues had beaten earlier in the tournament.  Due to their 2012 final loss to Corinthians, the London club has yet to win a Club World Cup match against a Brazilian club in regular time.

Palmeiras, competing in their third event overall, were part of Group A alongside Inter Miami. They advanced to the quarterfinals after a 1-0 overtime win against Botafogo in the round of 16.  The thrilling youth Estêvão Willian, who is set to join Chelsea, will give the Brazilian team a boost as they fancy their chances in the match.

The 2021 FIFA Club World Cup final was the first time these two sides played, and it was Chelsea who emerged triumphant thanks to an extra-time goal from Kai Havertz. Brazil lost the competition.

Palmeiras x Chelsea Team News

The defense is facing serious problems due to the suspension of captain Gustavo Gómez, the ban on Joaquín Piquerez, and the probable injury of Murilo.  The assault will be spearheaded by the highly regarded youngster Estêvão Willian and Vitor Roque.

In the days leading up to a possible semifinal match, seven Chelsea players face a ban.  In other news, Nicolas Jackson is back in action after serving a two-match suspension that kept him out of a pivotal group stage meeting against ES Tunis and a last-gasp match against Benfica.  The Blues' lynchpins are projected to be Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer, with Liam Delap slated to start upfront.

Our Predictions

Chelsea to win @ 2.07 on Sky247.ng

Anticipate a tense, low-scoring match.  The offensive prowess of Chelsea will pose a formidable challenge to Palmeiras' makeshift defense.  The depth of the Blues should give them the win, but the tenacity of Palmeiras might make it close.
