Palmeiras vs Gremio: Brazil Serie A Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

This weekend, in the seventeenth round of Brazil's top division, Palmeiras will host Gremio at Allianz Parque to extend their resurgent Brasileiro run.

Abel Ferreira's squad has won seven of nine available points since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup. They will now play a team that has not won in their past four matches in any competition.

Previous Matches and Head-to-Head

Palmeiras, a dominant force in the league, has secured two league titles in the last three years. They currently sit in second place, just one slot below Cruzeiro, with 29 points from 14 matches. Verdao's league campaign in the US was halted after a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea. After losing two games in a row before the Club World Cup, Palmeiras bounced back to draw Mirassol and defeat Atletico Mineiro 3-2 and Fluminense 2-1.

Despite their best efforts, Verdao's home field has not been a fortress, with only three wins from seven league matches at Allianz Parque this season. Their most recent encounter ended in a 1-0 loss for Gremio, who have lost all four of their previous visits to the stadium.

Gremio, managed by Mano Menezes, has only made a small gain this season, moving up one rank with 17 points from 14 games. They have managed to salvage a point in their most recent top-flight encounter on a visit to Vasco da Gama.

In conclusion, Palmeiras has solidified its position as a dominant force in the league, but its home field has not been a stronghold for it.

Palmeiras vs Gremio Team News

With Facundo Torres, Felipe Anderson, and Vitor Roque providing the ideal balance to the attack, Ferreira has managed to keep things from falling apart in Willian's absence.

Particularly relieved will be Roque, who broke a goalless streak of two months with a 62nd-minute winner that sealed a crucial three points in their last outing.

However, Ferreira will be without winger Allan this weekend, as the replacement picked up a red card late in that same encounter.

Injuries have kept Bruno Rodrigues, Figueiredo, Murilo Cerqueira, and Paulinho out of the lineup as well.

Gremio will be without defenders João Pedro and Rodrigo Ely, both of whom are dealing with serious injuries — the former with a broken leg and the latter recovering from a cruciate ligament issue.

Gustavo Cuellar (muscle) and Miguel Monsalve (dislocated shoulder) are two midfielders that Menezes will also miss.

Our Predictions

Palmeiras to win & Under 3.5 goals @ 1.83 on Sky247.ng

Palmeiras should have more than enough quality to defeat a Gremio team that is still struggling to find its footing, and they are heavy favourites going into the match thanks to their present momentum and the psychological advantage of their prior home dominance in this game.
