Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur: EPL Match Preview, Odds & Prediction

In Wednesday's tantalizing North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates, Arsenal will be looking to rectify their previous knockout setbacks and remain the only side with an undefeated Premier League home record this season.

The Gunners' FA Cup run ended last weekend at the hands of holders Manchester United, but Ange Postecoglou's side went on a scoring binge against Tamworth despite having to battle through an extra half an hour.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

After two frighteningly insipid offensive exhibitions, Mikel Arteta's men have already given up on FA Cup glory and will almost certainly do the same in the EFL Cup. If Arsenal's last two home horror shows are any indication, the walls of the Emirates have crumbled.

Defying the odds, 10-man Manchester United kept their FA Cup title defense going, leaving Arsenal to rue another poor performance in front of goal. This came five days after their crushing home loss to Newcastle United in the previous competition, in which they learned a hard lesson about attacking ruthlessness.

On a day when Gabriel Jesus was helped off the field on a stretcher with a knee injury that fans have seen all too often, Gooners' calls for a new striker in January were bolstered by the heroic penalty saves made by Altay Bayindir and the villainous misses made by Kai Havertz.

If they lose the derby, they could fall nine points behind Liverpool despite having played one more game, depending on how the Reds do at Nottingham Forest. Arteta, though, has openly supported his current players to pull themselves out of their slump and avoid losing three games in a row for the first time since January 2024.

Though they have gone four games without a clean sheet across all competitions, the Gunners have held Spurs to a single goal in their past four Premier League home games, and they would be well to consult Tamworth for advice on how to maintain a clean sheet against Spurs.

Even though Spurs fans loved Sunday's match, seeing their team play so poorly against National League opponents had to have been excruciating. At least until extra time at the Lamb Ground, when their Premier League talent shone, it was worth it.

Underdogs Tamworth deserved their short break against Postecoglou's team and had enough opportunities to pull off a huge cup shock. Still, Tottenham avoided a terrible humiliation thanks to goals from Nathan Tshikuna (own goal), Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson.

Continuing with their Jekyll and Hyde theme, Spurs could not defeat Tamworth in FA cup at normal time after beating Premier League leaders Liverpool in the first leg in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final. Postecoglou's squad is now seeking three consecutive victories for the first time since early October.

The away team's dismal record in the Premier League (one point from their past twelve games) keeps them in the bottom part of the table. Despite a commendable 42-goal total, they are mathematically closer to the relegation zone than the top seven.

Despite their current offensive form, the Lilywhites could not prevent their bitter rivals from defeating them 1-0 at home in September. They go to the Emirates Stadium having conceded goals in an unprecedented 25 straight Premier League away games against Arsenal.

Arsenal x Tottenham Hotspur Team News

It is still unclear whether the Brazil international had a minor injury or a more serious issue with his knee. Still, the worst news is that Jesus hurt it again in the defeat to Manchester United, just when he got back on track in North London.

In any case, Jesus, Ethan Nwaneri, Bukayo Saka, Ben White, and Takehiro Tomiyasu will all be out for the derby due to injury. Riccardo Calafiori is also severely concerned after sitting out the FA Cup defeat due to a muscle issue.

Arteta may be forced to start the inefficient Havertz up front in Wednesday's crucial match, but he will likely make under half of his starting lineup changes after Sunday's exhausting and pointless 120 minutes.

With Destiny Udogie (hamstring), Ben Davies (hamstring), Richarlison (hamstring), Micky van de Ven (hamstring), Guglielmo Vicario (ankle), Wilson Odobert (hamstring), Cristian Romero (thigh), and Rodrigo Bentancur (head) out for Postecoglou's squad, the injury report should read as follows: haha.

Although Fraser Forster, who has been unwell, has a chance to get back into the lineup in the North London derby, Antonin Kinsky, who joined in January and immediately gained Postecoglou's favor, will likely make his Premier League debut there.

Son Heung-min, Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke, and EFL Cup match-winner Lucas Bergvall are expected to make a few substitutions for the Lilywhites, mirroring the hosts' lineup alterations.

Our Predictions

Arsenal to win & under 2.5 goals @ 4.60 on Sky247.ng

Although the North London derby is always exciting, this year's edition could not meet expectations due to the players' exhaustion from the EFL Cup and their two-hour FA Cup marathons.

Though it's impossible to know what Spurs lineup will play, their poor performance against Tamworth, especially with a bench attack to begin the match, is quite concerning.

Even if they aren't exactly ripping it up in the attacking third, Arsenal have plenty of scoring opportunities and might need one on Wednesday to complete an uplifting derby double.
