Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Brentford: EPL Match Preview & Prediction

One of two Premier League games following Boxing Day will take place at the Amex Stadium as Brighton & Hove Albion visit Brentford.

Following strong beginnings that placed them in the running for a European spot, both teams have struggled recently, winning just once in their previous five matches.

Preview of the match

Brighton supporters were fantasizing about a return to Europe after just one season away because of Fabian Hurzeler's fantastic start.

Nevertheless, the situation has rapidly deteriorated, as the Seagulls are now without a victory in five games, the most recent of which was a humiliating 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace at home.

They were in first place not long ago, but they lost both matches against West Ham United and Leicester City after gaining the lead. Now they're in tenth place.

Still, with their current record, Brighton is only six points behind the top four, and, in terms of the last European spot, they are two points behind Manchester City.

After losing their first game of the season at the Amex on their ninth try, Palace will now play a club they have not lost to in three home Premier League encounters.

With upcoming matches against Aston Villa and Arsenal, Hurzeler will benefit significantly from a more solid defensive performance.

Both sides have scored in 16 of Brighton's 20 matches this season in all competitions. The last two meetings between these two at the Amex have resulted in nine goals.

Even though they are now in the league's cellar, Brentford is among the top scorers, so a repeat performance is possible.

Last Saturday, unfortunately, they were blanked at home in a 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, their first home Premier League loss without a goal scored.

On two previous occasions this season, Brentford failed to score when playing away from home: one was against Liverpool, and the other was against Everton, a game in which they played with ten men for more than half of the match.

Because of this, Thomas Frank's squad lost four of their last five games, and their record is rapidly deteriorating. If their home form begins to slip, they won't have much to rely on while away from the Gtech.

Brentford has accumulated 11 points away from home this season, the second-worst in the Premier League after Everton's 10 points.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Brentford Team News

Danny Welbeck, who plays for Brighton, has been injured since returning briefly in the draw with Leicester and has missed the last two games.

After scoring away to West Ham last week, Mats Wieffer had a knock and is questionable to play this week. However, after recent disappointments, Ferdi Kadioglu and Jack Hinshelwood are in line to return.

Last weekend, Matt O'Riley returned to the team but did not play a part in any games. Meanwhile, Solly March has been working hard as he continues to recuperate from a severe knee injury.

Frank has boldly claimed he could deploy a "firm starting XI on the sidelines" despite Brentford having one of the league's highest absence rates (nine players).

After being substituted late in the game against Forest owing to a cut to the head, Mads Roerslev should be able to play again, while Sepp van den Berg is also a contender despite suffering a groin injury.

Kristoffer Ajer and Ethan Pinnock, two of the team's defenders, will not be able to play until 2025. They will join Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Igor Thiago, and Josh Dasilva in missing time due to injury.

Additionally, Mathias Jensen will miss this one due to injury; however, Frank has disclosed that he is making excellent progress and may return before the year ends.

Our Predictions

It has been one of the most unusual phenomena this season for Brentford to have a terrible away record compared to their incredible home wins. Nevertheless, given their talent, there is no reason they cannot win this match.

This should be a tight game between two powerful offensive sides, although Brighton are in a slump and could need a victory before a brutal stretch that includes Villa and Arsenal.
