Who has won the most Premier League titles?

Without a shadow of a doubt, Manchester City is the undisputed English football powerhouse right now. Their record-setting fourth consecutive Premier League triumph in 2023–24 stretched their current winning streak under Pep Guardiola to six in seven years.

However, City still has a way to go before they can catch up with Manchester United, their local rivals and the most successful team in English domestic history.

United's 27 years of unrelenting success under Sir Alex Ferguson propelled them to the top of the all-time Premier League championship standings. Here are the top five teams with the most Premier League Titles:

Liverpool – 1

The Premier League has existed for 30 years, and seven different teams have had the privilege of winning the title. Liverpool is one of three of these seven teams that have only ever won the championship once. Their ability to gain more points than the other two teams in their championship season propelled them to the top-five ranking.

In 2019–20, the Reds won the Premier League for the first time in club history after amassing an unprecedented 99 points and dominating the competition. The form of Liverpool that season was quite different; they won three games and lost two. Thanks to their championship triumph, they ended their long title drought and went down in history as the second-highest point-scoring club in a single season.

Arsenal – 3

The north London team known as Arsenal has won three Premier League championships to date, solidifying its status as one of England's most successful clubs. In 1997–98, 2001–02, and, of course, the legendary 2003–04 league campaign—during which the club became the first-ever to finish the whole season undefeated—it won the championship.

Regrettably, the Gunners have failed to win a league championship in the last 20 years. However, that might soon change as they are doing well under manager Mikel Arteta and seem rationed to earn the Premier League crown this season.

Chelsea – 5

Chelsea, Arsenal's London rivals, are among the Premier League's most successful teams, having recently outperformed almost every European club in league and European success. But the Blues weren't having it easy; they were in a precarious financial position toward the turn of the millennium. But things turned around when Roman Abramovic, a Russian millionaire, bought the club in 2003 and brought in millions to help them win many games.

Chelsea won the league championship for the first time after the takeover and regained it the following year. The Blues' remarkable play persisted throughout the following seasons, during which they won three more Premier League crowns.

Manchester City – 8

For the last six to seven years, there has been no doubt that Manchester United's Blue Side has been the top English club. Since Pep Guardiola took over as manager, City has dominated the Premier League, establishing themselves as a distinct species. The Citizens have won five Premier League championships in the last six seasons, bringing their total to eight.

In 2017–18, Manchester City became the first English club to earn 100 points in a single season in the English Premier Championship, and they went on to win the championship. Aguero scored the game-winning goal in the last minute of the 2011–12 season for the Sky Blues to win the Premier League, and in 2013–14, they pulled off an unbelievable comeback to deny Liverpool their first Premier League championship. This was the second of Chelsea's two Premier League wins.

By beating West Ham 3-1 on the last day of the 2023–24 season, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City became the first club in Premier League history to win four championships in a row.

Manchester United – 13

Having won 13 Premier League titles—more than twice the next-highest team total—Manchester United is clearly the most successful club in Premier League history. Ever since becoming the league's first-ever champions, the Red Devils have done an outstanding job of maintaining their illustrious reputation.

Sir Alex Ferguson, the club's illustrious manager, was instrumental in United's unprecedented history as manager of every championship victory. During their heyday from 2006 to 2009, Manchester United had several world-class players on the team, including Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, and they accomplished the remarkable treble twice.

Notwithstanding this incredible achievement, the last time the team raised the Premier League trophy at the Theatre of Dreams was ten years ago, and the faithful followers are yearning for a return to glory so they may add the club's name to the prestigious trophy.
