Real Madrid vs. Mallorca: Supercup Match Preview, Odds & Prediction

Real Madrid and Mallorca will vie for a spot in the Spanish Super Cup final in Thursday's semi-final match at King Abdullah Sports City.

Mallorca, winners of the Copa del Rey last season, and Los Blancos, winners of La Liga this season, are participating in the Super Cup.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

In December of 2024–25, Real Madrid beat Pachuca 3-0 to win the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in Qatar, giving them their first title of the season.

After that, in their last game of 2024, Los Blancos defeated Sevilla 4-2; last Friday, they began the new year with a thrilling 2-1 triumph against Valencia.

With 10 men after Vinicius Junior's dismissal, Real Madrid rallied late at Mestalla to earn a draw and make up for Jude Bellingham's earlier penalty miss. Luka Modric scored an equalizer, and in stoppage time, Bellingham scored again to give Real Madrid the victory.

Thanks to that win, Carlo Ancelotti's squad jumped to the league's top, with a five-point lead over third-place Barcelona and a two-point lead over Atletico Madrid, who are city rivals and sit two points behind.

They continued their winning streak to seven matches in all competitions on Monday with a 5-0 thrashing of fourth-tier Deportivo Minera in a Copa del Rey match. Arda Guler scored twice, Federico Valverde once, Eduardo Camavinga once, and Luka Modric scored the other goal. The win propelled them into the round of 16.

Next up for Real Madrid is the Spanish Super Cup, where they will aim to defend the title they won last season with a 4-1 victory against Barcelona.

Despite losing the 2021 Spanish Super Cup final against Athletic Club 2-1, they have advanced from the semi-finals in the last three years. Thus, they will be confident going into this year's tournament.

After making it to the Copa del Rey final last season and losing in a penalty shootout to Athletic Bilbao, Mallorca will now play in the four-team Super Cup format for the first time.

Mallorca has only made it to the Spanish Super Cup twice, in 1998 (when they won the trophy with a 3-1 aggregate victory against Barcelona) and 2003 (when they lost to Real Madrid with a 4-2 aggregate score).

Although they will be pleased with their sixth-place finish in Jagoba Arrasate's first season as coach, they will enter the 2024–25 season as the worst-ranked team in the league.

After Friday's sad 3-0 loss to fourth-tier Pontevedra in the Copa del Rey, Arrasate will not be able to repeat last season's remarkable cup run under Javier Aguirre, even if Mallorca may be contending for European qualification under his tutelage.

Los Piratas' dismal three-match losing streak in all competitions may not bode well as they prepare for Real Madrid, a formidable opponent.

If Mallorca can remember their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid at Son Moix on the season's first weekend, they may have some confidence going into this match.

The match on Thursday will go into extra time and maybe penalties if the same outcome occurs, but Mallorca will be hoping to pull off an upset in the first half and beat Real Madrid for the first time since a 1-0 triumph in February 2023.

Real Madrid x Mallorca Team News

Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, two key players for Real Madrid's defense, will be sidelined for the rest of the season with anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

Although he was named to the Spanish Super Cup roster, Austrian international David Alaba will not be able to participate due to his near-recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Jesus Vallejo, a defender out of favor recently, could not travel with the team after suffering an injury that prevented him from participating in the cup victory against Minera.

Despite Vinicius's impending league punishment for his red card against Valencia, the Brazilian forward can start Thursday's match.

Kylian Mbappe, who has scored thirteen goals in the competition this season, will be making his Super Cup debut and aiming to add to his tally.

Samu Costa, who has been out with a muscular ailment for the last three matches, is still part of Arrasate's traveling party for Mallorca.

Whether the 24-year-old midfielder can participate in Thursday's semi-final is an open question.

After experimenting independently during Tuesday's practice, midfielder Antonio Sanchez and defender Antonio Raillo must also be evaluated.

Arrasate is expected to make many changes following Friday's cup loss in the semi-final match. Players such as Dominik Greif, Vedat Muriqi, Sergi Darder, Cyle Larin, and Pablo Maffeo might start.
