New Update
River Plate vs. Colo-Colo

For Wednesday's second leg of their Copa Libertadores quarterfinal match, River Plate will welcome Colo-Colo to Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti.

In last Tuesday's first-leg match at Estadio Monumental, David Arellano, La Banda, and Los Albos played to a meaningful 1-1 tie.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

After last Tuesday's stalemate in a game that included eight yellow and two red cards (one each for the two teams), River Plate continued their undefeated streak in the current Libertadores season.

Just before halftime, German Pezzella put La Banda ahead, but Colo-Colo scored again after the hour mark thanks to Carlos Palacios.

After scoring the first goal in the Libertadores, River Plate has not lost a single match, losing just a point in a 2-2 tie against Nacional.

In 2015 and 2018, Argentine coach Marcelo Gallardo won the Copa Libertadores twice with his team. He is now third all-time with 100 matches coached in the tournament, behind Luis Cubilla (104) and Gabriel Uribe (116).

In their most recent match, River Plate defeated Boca Juniors 1-0 in Saturday's Superclasico in the Argentine Primera Division. Since then, they have gone undefeated in all competitions.

For the first time since 2020, La Banda will be looking to reach the semifinals of this competition. They are undefeated at home against Wednesday's visitors in this tournament, winning 4-0 in their most recent match.

The last time Colo-Colo advanced to the quarterfinals of this tournament was in 1997 when they beat Universidad Catolica 3-1.

But they've only managed a single win in four Libertadores away games this season; their most recent triumph was a 2-1 triumph against Junior FC in the round of 16.

After dropping a road game against Fluminense on April 10, Jorge Almiron's squad went 13 games without a defeat. Their most recent road game was a 3-0 loss to Magallanes in the Chilean cup.

Eterno Campeon might lose all three competitive matches on Tuesday for the first time since April of this year.

River Plate vs. Colo-Colo Team News

Rodrigo Aliendro will not be available for River Plate's match against River Plate since he is recovering from a shoulder injury that will likely sideline him until the end of October.

Maximiliano Meza may be out for a few days with a knock, while Pity Martinez will be out until next month with a torn cruciate ligament.

The second leg will be played under Paulo Diaz's suspension; he was one of two players sent off in the first leg draw.

After breaking his jaw, Chilean midfielder Vicente Pizarro has not yet returned to action. In March, Cesar Fuentes tore his anterior cruciate ligament, so he will also be out for Colo-Colo.

Maximiliano Falcon will not play in Wednesday's match since he is banned. Falcon was also sent off in the first leg.
