Sao Paulo vs. Talleres: Copa Libertadores Predictions

Seeking just one point to secure first place, Sao Paulo invites Talleres to MorumBIS on Tuesday in the last group stage game for both teams in the Copa Libertadores.

While Talleres went ahead of Alianza Lima for third after defeating them 2-0, a late equalizer on matchday five let the Brazilians earn a 1-1 draw with Club Libertad and maintain three points above them.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Sao Paulo typically thrives in the second half, particularly in this league, although they love to leave it late. One goal, a 1-0 win against Talleres on matchday one, occurred after the 75th minute; the other gained a point the previous game.  Half of their Libertadores group goals went beyond this. Luis Zubeldia's team hasn't lost a home game since February when Ponte Preta beat them 2-1 in Paulista A1.

Sao Paulo would become the first team to finish the group stage unbeaten since 2005 when they won the title. Despite five group games, Soberano has not conceded a goal in the first half. In this competition, Sao Paulo has never lost at home against Talleres, notching two clean sheets, including a 2-0 group stage win last year.

Talleres will depart the Copa Libertadores early, but a victory in this next game might rescue something vital. Unless Lima does the same and the Peruvians win by two goals, gaining maximum points on Tuesday may put them in third place and qualify for the Copa Sudamericana. In his first two matches as caretaker manager, Mariano Levisman has not conceded a goal.

Talleres has lost its previous three Libertadores group matches away from home after defeating San Martin on matchday five of the Argentine Primera Division season in February. Talleres has won its last six group games since 2021, scoring in the first half. La T has never won a match on Brazilian soil in this event, their best result being a 0-0 draw with Sao Paulo at MorumBIS in the 2019 qualifying round.

Sao Paulo x Talleres Team News

On match day five, Ruan and Lucas Moura were out with knee injuries, while Igor Vinicius was out with a back injury.

Henrique Carmo had an ankle injury, Jonathan Calleri had a cruciate ligament injury, Luiz Gustavo had a lung contusion, and Alisson will miss this game due to a red card.

Tricolor Paulista's Lucca Marques scored his first competitive equalizer minutes after Lucas Ferreira came in.

While Matias Catalan healed from a cruciate ligament rupture, Talleres' Emanuel Reynoso and Guido Herrera missed their previous Libertadores match with muscle strains. At the same time, Gaston Benavidez was sidelined with an ankle injury.

From matchday four to five, Augusto Schott, Valentin Depietri, and Rick replaced Benavidez in the starting 11.  Nahuel Bustos, Blas Riveros Ruben Botta gets the winner against Alianza Lima, Depietri scores, and Javier Burrai saves six clean sheets.
