Seattle Sounders vs Atletico Madrid: Club World Cup Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

Atletico Madrid will face Seattle at Lumen Field on Thursday night in an attempt to secure their first Club World Cup win.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

To start with the hosts, the Sounders have been struggling lately, but Seattle might have a raucous home crowd cheering them on Thursday night.  Brian Schmetzer's squad will be ready for another tough test here after opening their Club World Cup campaign with a 2-1 setback to Brazilian giants Botafogo earlier in the week.  The Greens have lost all three of their most recent appearances across all competitions, and they are now in their worst slump since the beginning of the 2025 season. They failed to generate any momentum before their Group B excursion, as they collapsed to a 3-0 thrashing against Vancouver.  Similarly, Seattle has shown some concerning defensive flaws and is penciled in as a landslide underdog for midweek despite surrendering eight goals over their three-match losing streak.

On the other side, Atletico Madrid is looking for a quick turnaround after opening their Club World Cup campaign with a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of reigning European champions PSG.  When Diego Simeone's squad arrives at Lumen Field, they will be under immense pressure to win, as their hopes of reaching the knockout round are on the line.  Atletico has earned a bad image due to its obvious problems outside of Madrid, even though it ended the 2024–25 season with a domestic flourish.  Starting on February 22, Simeone's squad has been in a rut, winning just twice in their past ten road games. That includes their dismal showing in the Rose Bowl last time out.

Seattle Sounders vs Atletico Madrid Team News

Jon Bell and Cameroon international Nouhou are both available to play on Thursday night despite currently serving domestic bans.  Paul Arriola, the former outcast of Swansea, has been out with a long-term knee injury and has not played a game since mid-March.

American international Jordan Morris, who hasn't played since late April, might make his Schmetzer squad return debut this coming week.  The 2025 season will see the return of Ryan Kent, a youth from Liverpool who just completed a free transfer to Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.

Former Aston Villa loanee Clement Lenglet will be unavailable due to suspension. He was sent a second-half red card against PSG last weekend.  Here, Simeone is likely to make a few changes, which might lead to a complete recall for players like Koke (a Spanish international) and Conor Gallagher.

Julian Alvarez, a former Manchester City marksman who had a phenomenal first season among Spain's best, could start as a mainstay in central defense.  Jose Maria Gimenez, who has been a mainstay for Uruguay in the last two weeks, might start in goal for Atletico.

Our Predictions

Atletico Madrid to win @ 1.40 on Sky247.ng

After suffering a humiliating 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain last weekend, Atletico Madrid will be looking to get back on track at Lumen Field to kick off their World Club Cup campaign.  Even though the Sounders will have the backing of their home fans on Thursday night, they still face a massive obstacle in this match.  We are predicting an away win for midweek, as they begin their Group B campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Botafogo and have lost their last three matches consecutively, with an aggregate score of 8-3.
