Atalanta BC vs. Napoli: Serie A Match Preview, Odds & Prediction

On Saturday night, Atalanta BC and Napoli, two of Italy's top three teams, will meet at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo to compete for the Scudetto.

Having passed their hosts for first place in Serie A, the visitors will be out for vengeance after a humiliating 3-0 home loss in the November matchup.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Earlier this week, draw experts Juventus held Atalanta to a tie on home ground. Both teams made up a game that was postponed due to their involvement in the Supercoppa Italiana; Atalanta is now four points behind first-placed Napoli.

Juve were poised to shatter La Dea's excellent home record after opening the deadlock, but the top scorer in Serie A came off the bench to equalize the scores with a trademark poacher's finish, capping off an exciting first half. The second half was just as action-packed.

In a comeback from injury, Italy striker Mateo Retegui leveled the score. After that, both teams had shots stopped, and another attempt was pushed off the line, but they couldn't hit the back of the net.

Although the result was disappointing for Gian Piero Gasperini's team, they are still undefeated in 15 league matches and have drew their past three. Their previous losses were against Inter Milan in the semi-finals and Udinese, so this was a fortuitous draw.

Atalanta have scored in every one of their previous twenty-five home top-flight matches, averaging 2.5 goals per game, dating back to last season. This includes a first-ever Serie A tie at the Gewiss Stadium, which followed seven victories and a single defeat this year.

So, it's likely that the Europa League champions will keep up their previous domination over Napoli when they host Sturm Graz in their Champions League campaign next week.

Two months ago, at Stadio Maradona, La Dea won 3-0 thanks to goals from Ademola Lookman and another from Retegui, extending their winning streak to three games.

Oddly enough, Napoli have won the past three home Serie A matches against Atalanta, so history definitely favors the visitors in that regard.

Antonio Conte's squad increased the advantage last weekend as they brushed away Hellas Verona. Frank Anguissa scored a magnificent goal after Giovanni Di Lorenzo's strong effort was deflected in off Gialloblu goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo.

Napoli is aiming for its sixth consecutive win since its loss to Lazio in early December. It has won its past three games without allowing a goal.

Along with Atalanta and defending champions Inter, they hold the best record of any team in Europe's top five leagues this season with twelve clean sheets. They will be vying for the Scudetto.

Going into Saturday night's Serie A matchup, the Partenopei are undefeated on the road, having won seven and lost one of their nine league encounters.

Atalanta BC x Napoli Team News

This week, Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia signed a lucrative midseason deal with Paris Saint-Germain, much to Antonio Conte's disappointment. However, fellow winger David Neres has been outstanding recently and will once again help top scorer Romelu Lukaku.

Both of Partenopei's goals against Verona came from Lukaku, who has scored once and assisted on three others in his last two outings.

Juan Jesus will likely keep starting in defense in the absence of injured dominating center-back Alessandro Buongiorno. In contrast, Mathias Olivera will likely start again on the left side of defense.

While Sead Kolasinac is banned, Gianluca Scamacca has been out for a while, and Odilon Kossounou has just suffered an injury, Atalanta may be able to start Juan Cuadrado after a hiatus. According to reports, the second one could have gone missing for as long as four months.

After making his comeback in midweek, Mateo Retegui surged to the top of the Capocannoniere standings with 13 goals for the season. It is unclear whether Gian Piero Gasperini would call him back.

Although Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere may be favored from the beginning, Cristiano Doni scored 16 goals in one season for La Dea in 2001–02.

Our predictions

Full-time draw @ 3.30 on Sky247.ng

Atalanta, which is in the hunt for a playoff spot, is great at home, but Napoli, which is now leading Serie A, is formidable away from home.

So, it's possible that Inter will win in a fierce matchup between two of Italy's most prestigious managers.
