Inter Milan vs. Bologna: Serie A Match Preview, Odds & Prediction

On Wednesday night, Bologna will visit San Siro to take on Inter Milan, the defending Serie A champions looking for their seventh consecutive league victory.

After being brutally denied a win in their previous match, Inter can close the gap to one point on top if they defeat their Rossoblu opponents.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Inter returned to regular schedule action on Sunday, only days after losing the Supercoppa Italiana final to their local rivals despite having a two-goal lead.

After sitting on the sidelines while AC Milan hoisted the title for the last three seasons, Simone Inzaghi's squad returned to action at Stadio Penzo with a 1-0 victory against Serie A strugglers Venezia.

And while they were about it, Inter added another clean sheet to their expanding total; their last league road goal came in September at Udinese.

They have not lost in thirteen Serie A matches and have won four games in a row without allowing a goal, the club's greatest run since 2021. This streak includes games played at home and away.

This puts them in fourth place, four points behind Napoli, although they have a game in hand because of the Supercoppa and a postponed match against Fiorentina.

By averaging more than 2.5 goals per game, Inzaghi's squad not only keeps things tight defensively (apart from letting three goals against Milan and four goals against Juventus) but also leads the division in scoring.

They have scored in the past 31 league matches played at San Siro, so Bologna should be wary going into Wednesday's match.

Inter won all three Serie A matches last season, but Bologna won the Coppa Italia in a thrilling overtime thriller.

Now that they've won the cup, the Rossoblu will be looking to keep up their impressive scoring streak in each of their past thirteen league matches in Milan at San Siro.

Bologna, who didn't play their first game of 2025 until last weekend, came so close to opening the year with a home victory against Roma before settling for a draw.

They went down early in the second half at Stadio Dall'Ara, but Thijs Dallinga scored their second goal of the season, and Lewis Ferguson scored from the penalty spot; nevertheless, their opponents managed to salvage a point when Jhon Lucumi gave up a penalty in the final second for a handball that the video assistant referee granted.

As a result of these expensive mistakes, Vincenzo Italiano's team has let in five goals in Serie A games starting in the 90th minute this season—just one less than Como. Also, they lost 15 points in a winning position, second-worst in the league, behind only Venezia.

However, the Emilian team may still have a shot at beating Inter this season because they are currently in seventh place in the league and have only lost twice while touring Italy.

Inter Milan x Bologna Team News

Nicolo Barella, Kristjan Asllani, and Piotr Zielinski were an unexpected midfield combination that Simone Inzaghi chose on Sunday; they may reunite in midweek.

Regular starters Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu are both questionable with thigh injuries; Calhanoglu has scored five goals in five league games versus Bologna at San Siro, and Davide Frattesi is reportedly rumored to be leaving the club in the middle of the season.

While Francesco Acerbi, Yann Bisseck, and Joaquin Correa remain injured, Frenchmen Benjamin Pavard and Marcus Thuram have just returned.

Bologna also has the option of calling upon Tommaso Pobega, a former Milan player who received a one-match suspension for his red card against Hellas Verona. However, center-back Jhon Lucumi, a Colombian, is now banned due to accumulated bookings.

Prolonged absences: Swiss midfielder Michel Aebischer, Oussama El Azzouzi, and Nicolo Cambiaghi have returned to training but are unprepared to play.

After being benched over the weekend, Riccardo Orsolini hopes to return to the starting lineup. He has three goals and has assisted in his previous four league games versus Inter, and he will be one of many candidates to back up Thijs Dallinga or Santiago Castro up front.

Our predictions

Inter Milan to win @ 1.50 on Sky247.ng

Bologna has won four of the previous five Serie A encounters against Inter, while the Nerazzurri have won eight. The last match between the two teams ended in a draw.

Midweek could see more of the same, as Inter can bolster their Scudetto campaign with a win and more momentum.
