Torino vs. Napoli: Serie A Previews, Odds and Predictions

On Sunday afternoon, Napoli will travel to Torino to continue their pursuit of reclaiming the Serie A championship. The two clubs are engaged in a multi-club struggle for the top position.

Azzurri is riding high following last week’s victory over Roma, while Toro has managed only one point and one goal in their previous four outings.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Napoli returned to the top of Serie A last week after defeating Claudio Ranieri’s emotional return to Roma’s coaching position in the season’s first Derby del Sole, 1-0.

Romelu Lukaku, a former Roma striker, scored for Antonio Conte’s side early in the second half after his team had controlled the ball and the area around the goal during the match at Stadio Maradona.

Since their most recent victory, Napoli have maintained a clean sheet eight times, which is second-best in Europe’s top five leagues behind only Juventus’ ten. They have allowed only one goal in the first half of their road games this season, leading up to their trip to Turin.

The Azzurri are now in a tight fight for the Scudetto, with six clubs separated by four points. Since Conte took over, they have won eight of their nine home league and cup matches. However, despite a solid defensive record, they have had significantly less success while playing away from home.

Now that they have taken on Torino, they can improve their away record by facing Lazio in Rome. At stake is a spot in the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia.

Despite suffering a 3-0 loss at Stadio Olimpico Grande in January, Napoli is a heavy favorite entering this matchup. They have won seven of their last eight meetings with Toro.

After losing five in a row in 2012, Torino went undefeated against Napoli last season, so they’ll be looking to extend that streak to three games against their Campanian rivals.

But Paolo Vanoli’s squad has fallen to the bottom half of the Serie A rankings and has yet to win since October so that it could be asking a lot.

Torino had 11 points after the first five games, but they have only collected four in the last eight. Only bottom-place Venezia has collected fewer points in that time.

The Granata were defeated to a 1-1 draw by lowly Monza last weekend; they entered the recent international break on a run of three consecutive losses, including another Derby della Mole setback to city rivals Juventus.

With a lack of confidence and goals, Vanoli’s squad has already been eliminated from the Coppa Italia in a home loss to Empoli. The ex-Venezia coach will not expect favors from his old Chelsea and Italy colleague, Antonio Conte.

Torino vs. Napoli Team News

Antonio Conte may start the same eleven as last week’s match since Napoli should be without reserve full-back Pasquale Mazzocchi, who hurt his leg.

After last season’s disappointing failure to qualify for Europe, he has been free to stick with the same back four, with Scott McTominay providing midfield support for a similar forward three.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is supposedly being courted by Manchester United, will line up in the final third alongside Romelu Lukaku and Matteo Politano. Lukaku is aiming to add to his nine goals in Serie A against Torino.

When the teams meet again at Stadio Olimpico Grande, Alessandro Buongiorno, who started his career in Toro’s primavera and made 99 league appearances for the club, will be in charge of the defense.

The hosts will be without Perr Schuurs and Duvan Zapata, who are both nursing ACL injuries; however, Ivan Ilic, who has been out with a hamstring issue, may be able to return to the lineup.

Antonio Sanabria, who joined forces with Che Adams in the attacking third, has scored three goals in his last four Serie A outings against Napoli, including both meetings last season.

Our Predictions

Napoli to win @ 1.83 on Sky247.ng

This season, only Lazio has more one-goal wins than Torino and Napoli combined (after 13 Serie A matches); therefore, the game might end in a tight finish.

Because Toro has been struggling since the end of September and the away team is showing no signs of life, Conte and company should come out of Turin with all three points.
