Sevilla vs Sunderland: Club Friendly Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

In a preseason friendly on Saturday night, Sevilla and Sunderland will face off on the Algarve. While Sunderland had a memorable season, returning to the Premier League, Sevilla had a forgettable one, just avoiding relegation.

Previous Matches and Head to Head

Following their third consecutive disappointing campaign, Sevilla will be looking forward to another crucial preseason.

Sevilla continued their downward spiral in 2024–25, finishing in 17th place after placing 12th and 14th, respectively. They narrowly avoided relegation by a single point, winning only one of their last eleven matches.

For a team that won the Europa League in 2023 and was in the Champions League a little over a year ago, the precipitous decline has been shocking.

Sevilla have brought in Matias Almeyda, their seventh manager in as many years, to make a radical change.

Their 3-1 loss to newly-promoted Championship team Birmingham City last weekend was a rough start for the new manager. Still, they have plenty of time to recover before their La Liga opening against Athletic Bilbao on August 17.

Before the league season begins, Sevilla will play Sunderland this weekend. They will also face Schalke, Marseille, Al Qadsiah, and Toulouse.

Sunderland, who haven't played in the Premier League since 2017, are also gearing up for a significant season.

With last weekend's 4-0 victory against South Shields, the Black Cats have racked up plenty of match practice in preparation for their August debut against West Ham.

Regis Le Bris's squad will face Sevilla, Sporting Lisbon, Hearts, Hull City, Real Betis, and Augsburg during the third and final week.

The stadium is also experiencing an upsurge in excitement, with the team having spent over £100 million on their return to the Premier League and many more signings still to come.

Sevilla x Sunderland Team News

Although Alfonso Gonzalez made his Sevilla debut against Birmingham, Gabriel Suazo is yet to see any action despite joining on a free transfer, like the rest of the club's summer additions.

Defender Loic Bade did not participate in last week's loss to Birmingham, but teammates Ruben Vargas, Tanguy Nianzou, and Akor Adams are all healthy again after injuries sidelined them after last season.

Since Reinildo, Noah Sadiki, and Simon Adingra were all benched for Sunderland's first friendly, supporters will be hoping to get a taste of their new acquisitions.

Although Habib Diarra made his debut vs South Shields, Chemsdine Talbi is still sidelined with an injury he sustained while playing for Club Brugge.

Teenage sensation Chris Rigg may not play here either, while Aji Alese is out with a fractured leg. Neither player was able to play in the match against South Shields.

Our Predictions

Full-time draw @ 4.10 on Sky247.ng

Given that Sunderland dominated non-league South Shields and Sevilla had a tough return to action against Birmingham, it is hard to predict how the game may go, particularly considering that both teams have welcomed back more first-team players to complete training.
