New Update
Spain vs. Serbia

Spain will strive to solidify its position at the summit of Group 4 in League A when it hosts Serbia on Tuesday night as it continues its 2024-25 UEFA Nations League campaign.

Luis de la Fuente's team will enter the match on the heels of a 1-0 victory over Denmark, while Serbia secured a remarkable 2-0 win over Switzerland in their most recent game to increase their lead in the group to four points.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

On Saturday evening, Spain was not at their best against Denmark, and it seemed as though La Roja would be compelled to accept a goalless draw. However, Martin Zubimendi scored the sole goal of the match in the 79th minute.

Consequently, the Euro 2024 champions ascended to the summit of the section, surpassing Denmark with seven points from their initial three matches. They will now endeavor to accumulate ten points before their final two group-stage games, which will be played against Switzerland and Denmark next month.

Spain has been the reigning champions of the Nations League since the 2022-23 competition when they defeated Croatia in the final to secure the trophy for the first time.

Serbia held La Roja to a goalless draw in the reverse match last month, but they have not lost since a 1-0 loss to Colombia in March. The visitors will be coming off an exceptional performance and entering this match with momentum.

Lamine Yamal, the Barcelona wunderkind, sustained a minor injury during the previous match against Denmark, and Spain is currently without several key players due to injury.

Serbia could not advance beyond the group stage of Euro 2024, earning only two points from their three matches. However, they have demonstrated some promising developments in the 2024-25 Nations League campaign.

Despite opening their Group 4 challenge with a goalless draw against Spain, Dragan Stojkovic's team could not capitalize on the victory, as they were defeated 2-0 by Denmark in their second game in September.

However, the Eagles responded remarkably on Saturday, defeating Switzerland 2-0. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a goal besides Nico Elvedi's own goal, securing all three points.

Serbia is currently in third place in their group, two points behind Denmark in second place and three points behind Spain in first place. Therefore, a victory on Tuesday night would place them in an intriguing position before their final two group games in November.

Stojkovic's team has only suffered one defeat in their last five games across all competitions. However, their inaugural encounter with Spain in May 2012 resulted in a 2-0 loss, with Adrian Lopez and Santi Cazorla scoring.

Spain x Serbia Team News

Unai Simon, Dani Carvajal, Robin Le Normand, Rodri, Dani Olmo, Gavi, and Nico Williams are among the key players presently unavailable for selection by Spain due to injury.

As previously indicated, Yamal will also be absent from La Roja's squad due to his recent injury.

Alex Baena is the most likely candidate to replace Yamal; however, the same team that faced Denmark may also be fielded, with Alvaro Morata, who has scored 36 goals for his country, serving as the leader.

Serbia's head coach, Stojkovic, may retain the same starting lineup that secured a remarkable victory over Switzerland, with Mitrovic remaining in the final third of the field.

Mitrovic has scored 59 goals in 95 matches for his country, and this season, the 30-year-old has been in exceptional form for Al Hilal, scoring 14 goals in 11 appearances across all competitions.

Nikola Milenkovic and Sasa Lukic are also expected to retain their positions in the squad. At the same time, Marko Grujic, who was withdrawn during the interim of the match against Switzerland, is anticipated to be included in the starting lineup for Porto.

Our Predictions

Spain to win over 2.5 goals @ 1.90 on Sky247.ng.

This match has the potential to be highly challenging to Spain, as Serbia is a difficult opponent to overcome, and the hosts will be without several key players. It would not be unexpected to witness a draw in this match; however, we have a hunch that De la Fuente's team will be able to navigate to a significant three points.
