Switzerland w vs Norway w: UEFA Women Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

Tournament organizers at Basel's St. Jakob-Park, the women's national team, will meet Norway to open the 2025 European Championships.

Group A consists of Iceland, Switzerland, and Finland; all three teams will be vying for a spot in the finals.

Previous Matches and Head-to-head

Switzerland made their tournament debut in 2017, but their performance was short-lived as they finished in third place with four points. In 2022, they worsened, losing another group stage match and collecting only one point from three games. With their third Euro participation and the added pressure of hosting the tournament, La Nati will be looking for a more successful tournament.

Switzerland failed to boost their confidence during their recent Nations League campaign, as they were automatically relegated with only two points in a group that included Iceland, Norway, and France. In a friendly match against the Czech Republic, Riola Xhemaili, Geraldine Reuteler, Smilla Vallotto, and Svenja Folmli scored four goals each, ending their losing streak of eight games.

Switzerland will be looking to bounce back from a four-game losing streak against Norway in Wednesday's match, hoping to win their first head-to-head match since March 2016. Norway, one of the five reigning champions, has had a disappointing two-year run since finishing second at the 2013 Women's Euros. In their most recent friendly against Sweden, Norway lost 2-0 after giving up two goals in the first half.

The injury-plagued Tottenham Hotspur defender will not participate in the competition, Switzerland announced on Monday.

Iman Beney, Viola Calligaris, Julia Stierli, Noelle Maritz, and Nadine Riesen are the five possible starting backs for Pia Sundhage.

Lia Walti, a midfielder for Arsenal, missed the team's friendly victory against the Czech Republic but is expecting to return to the pitch soon.

Marthe Ostenstad, a defender, was recently summoned to the Norwegian national team to replace the injured Guro Bergsvand.

Thea Bjelde, Maren Mjelde, Tuva Hansen, and Marit Lund are the expected members of Grainger's starting back four.

On the other side of the field, Norway's attacker will most likely be Ada Hegerberg, with Guro Reiten and Caroline Graham Hansen providing support in various areas.
