Tottenham vs. Bayern Munich: Match Preview, Odds & Predictions

On Saturday afternoon, Tottenham Hotspur will play Bayern Munich in their last preseason friendly in North London. Last weekend, the Bundesliga heavyweights defeated Spurs 2-1 in Seoul, handing Spurs their first loss of the summer.

Previous matches and head-to-head

During the preseason friendly match at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium in London, July 20, 2024 [on July 26, 2024], Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou was in attendance.

Spurs were feeling confident going into last weekend's match against Bayern following a string of five consecutive victories in friendly matches. During these matches, they scored 21 goals and defeated Cambridge United, Hearts, Queens Park Rangers, Vissel Kobe, and a K-League XI.

Nevertheless, Ange Postecoglou's squad lost to their German opponents. Bayern took an early lead thanks to a goal from teenage striker Gabriel Vidovic in the fourth minute, following a mix-up between Guglielmo Vicario and Djed Spence. Leon Goretzka scored Bayern's second goal shortly before the hour mark.

Pedro Porro scored a spectacular long-range shot past Sven Ulreich in the 25th minute to give Spurs a chance to equalize. Still, the weary Lilywhites team couldn't find the back of the net as their summer tour of Asia came to a disappointing conclusion.

The Spurs manager, Ange Postecoglou, believed his players "paid the price" during a brutal 10-day training camp in hot and humid Asian conditions, but he is sure that his squad would get "enormous" gains from the preseason.

Before getting ready for their away Premier League encounter against Leicester City on August 19, Spurs will be eager to get back on track and play well against Bayern at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Even though Bayern's victory against Tottenham was narrow in Seoul, their dominating performance highlighted the vast quality difference between the two sides, which would have pleased Bayern's new head coach, Vincent Kompany.

Their aggressive press and quick pace earned praise from the 38-year-old Belgian coach, who was satisfied with his team's 22 scoring opportunities (two more than Spurs) throughout the match.

Last week, Bayern salvaged a 1-1 draw with German fourth-tier team Duren. Earlier in the summer, they thrashed FC Rottach-Egern 14-1 in their first friendly. This week, they have shown a marked improvement in performance.

This Saturday's game will be Bayern's second-to-last preseason encounter before next Tuesday's summer finale in Unterhaching over Austrian minnows WSG Tirol.

Nine days before their 2024–25 Bundesliga opener against Wolfsburg, the Bavarian giants will be ready to face newly-promoted second-tier team Ulm in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on August 16.

While left-defender Destiny Udogie and striker Richarlison are both nursing calf and thigh ailments, and young center-back Ashley Phillips is questionable due to an unknown problem, Tottenham will still be missing several key players.

A quartet of Lilywhites—Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Giovani Lo Celso—are back in training this week and might play a role on Saturday.

If Romero or Van de Ven were to start at center back straight away, Ben Davies would likely switch to playing left back, his preferred position, while Spence and Porro would fight for the right-back spot.

The North Londoners have confirmed that Spurs ambassador Ledley King will present commemorative gifts to Bayern's Harry Kane and Eric Dier before kickoff, marking their first return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since leaving Spurs last season.

Kane and Alphonso Davies have been back in training this week, and both are expected to start. Kane will likely replace Vidovic up forward, while Davies will fight with Raphael Guerreiro for the starting left-back position.

Jamal Musiala, a talented forward, is still getting back into shape after a lengthy layoff after representing Germany at Euro 2024; he was benched last week against Spurs, and his participation in Saturday's match is uncertain.

Our Predictions

Full time draw @

After a week off to recharge and bring back several vital players, Tottenham will want to round off their preseason on a solid note in front of their home supporters after seeming weary and defenseless against an enthusiastic Bayern team last week.

We anticipate goals in this matchup as well. Although it's possible that Kane may return to torment his old team, we also predict the Spurs will find a way to win it all in a thrilling scoreless tie.
