To begin with, the hosts, Volta Redonda, although returning to Serie B this season, face a formidable challenge from Rogerio Correa's squad as they seek to maintain their position in the second division. The former CSA coach has seen his team win only twice in eleven games this season, most recently in a routine 2-0 loss to Goias.

As April comes to a close, the former coach of Sport Recife is riding high on a three-game winning streak and may be looking for a golden chance when his team visits Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday. 

Avai still hasn't mastered the art of fluidity when touring, despite their recent popularity.  Actually, in their previous three games away from the Ressacada, Moreira's squad has managed to rack up only one point in Serie B.

Volta Redonda will likely be without Gabriel Pinheiro, a former Brusque defender who left last week's match against Goias with a first-half injury when they face Brusque on Tuesday.  Similarly, Caio Roque, Du Fernandes, and ex-Mirassol attacker Marquinhos will all be missing from Correa's squad due to injuries.

Wellington Silva, a former star of Fluminense, returned to Volta's team last week and could earn more playing time as a result.  Matheus Lucas, who has scored twice in his previous four games, may start up front for midweek if he is entirely recalled.

Quaresma, a former Arouca defender who hasn't played since April, will be unable to start for Avai on Tuesday.  Jonathan Costa may make a triumphant comeback to Moreira's traveling squad after sitting out last week's match against CRB.

Central midfielder Joao Vitor, who last played for Vila Nova and scored a last-second winner against CRB, will be a key cog in this team's engine.  Cruzeiro teenager Pedrao will play with Eduardo Brock in the backfield for the 2025 season after completing a season-long loan move from Pedrao.

Although Tuesday's match was on the verge of propelling them into the promotion positions, Moreira's squad has been clumsy on the road.  Volta Redonda has not scored more than one goal in any of their eleven Serie B matches since the start of 2025, so it is not surprising that opportunities will be few in midweek.  We anticipate a similar result from Rio de Janeiro here, as Voltaco has seen 10 of those 11 matches end with under 2.5 goals.
