Osimhen agrees Galatasaray loan move

Napoli, the previous Italian champions, and the midfielder Victor Osimhen, who is now uneasy with his current club, agreed upon a loan transfer to Galatasaray on Monday.

The 25-year-old still has a chance to leave Napoli before the Turkish transfer window ends on September 13, even if his move to Chelsea was unsuccessful.

The news was published on Monday in the Italian journal Corriere dello Sport. Other Nigerian sources, such as Wazobia FM OAP, Buchi Laba, and Sulaiman Adebayo, also known as Pooja, provided updates as the sale progressed quickly.

According to Sky Sport Italia and RMC Sport, Assuming Galatasaray paid his full €11 million wage each season, Napoli was reportedly given the go-ahead for a dry loan without an option to purchase.

Instead, the Turkish team may have paid the loan cost and then split the salaries.

Speaking to Sports Digitale in Turkey, Giovanni Manna, Napoli's director of sports, said, "It is correct to say we are in talks with Galatasaray, and we are close to an agreement."

Both teams have also agreed, via Pooja Media, that prospective bidders may activate the player's €130 million release clause beginning in January 2025.

After being forced to stay on the bench until the January transfer market opens, Osimhen reportedly became thrilled about the notion of joining Galatasaray.

Osimhen had his heart set on a move to the English Premier League (EPL) before last Friday's summer transfer deadline. Still, Chelsea only offered him €4 million a year plus another €4 million that is performance-based, when he was earning €12 million a year at Napoli.

The Partenopei demanded an additional €5 million, which infuriated the Saudis, on top of the €70 million plus €10 million in incentives that Al-Ahli reportedly agreed to with Napoli, with the player earning €40 million each season in salary and, most importantly, a reasonable release clause to return to Europe soon.

Both transfers fell through, and Napoli has been firm in their refusal to let the Nigerian international back into the team ever since. The Italian club also claims the international player decided to leave months ago.

In Istanbul, he'll see Dries Mertens, a former teammate of his from Partenopei.

Galatasaray will meet Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax in the Europa League, so Osimhen may still play there even if he prefers a Champions League squad.
